Posted - 12/23/2014 : 09:09:17 AM Saturday was an ugly win, but a step in a positive direction. I think you saw the last ugly sweater night, as it seemed management expected a little more than what was offered during the auction. The rest of the December games are very winnable, hopefully the Clones keep that spark! |

Posted - 12/19/2014 : 2:00:24 PM I agree with Elvis "Getting on the board first is a positive first step " in the right direction. That there is the problem. They look good during warm ups, but then somewhere in between something is lost. The lack of intensity for one. I think if they can get over this hump, they will be fine down the stretch. It is still a little early, but starting to eye the points and position is picking up. |

Funny you should say that Susan. I questioned the hiring when they did it, but didn't want to say anything on here because I knew I would get bashed. IMHO this team has more talent than they are showing. I do agree totally with DBC. You can't make that kind of change and have the coach not lost face.
Sigh. Comments like this are so hilariously predictable from people on this forum. I say again, when we win...crickets. When we lose, blame the coach. Wake me when someone has anything of value to add to this board. |

Posted - 12/18/2014 : 6:29:17 PM IMHO Impossible to do Susan. The minute you do that the head coach loses his grip on the club and factions arise. Will ruin any unity on the club. If there is doubt about the coach he should be replaced and not put on IR for a few games.
As to last night, am I the only one bored by this team? They play hard and get an A for effort but is there anyone on the team or anything about the team that gets you excited during the game or during the drive to rink? A lot of grinders but no real goal scorers. Shalla has a shot but needs to be set up and he has been off the scoreboard since Froese has been called up. I don't think I jumped up from my seat once last night except for the fight. Most of our few shots were from the boards or point and we look incapable of making a play between the dots. In addition I am not sure I have ever seen more shots blocked by a team than Greenville did last night. Both the forwards and defensemen blocked almost every shot we took.A relatively easy shut out. On to the Elmira series and better things

Posted - 12/18/2014 : 4:21:06 PM First off let me say that I'll always support the team whether they win or lose. Now, I'm going to say something that may upset some folks so be it. I think it's time for the Assistant Coach to take over for a few games to see if that would spark something. I love Matt as a person but am wondering if he's really cut out to be a head coach? Your thoughts? |

Take away the $1 beer night, and how many of the 3002 would have attended the game? How many of the 3002 could have named one or more Cyclones players if polled on the concourse outside the arena before the game?
The answer to both questions is less than 1,000.
It's a night of entertainment for the majority of the people that attend Cyclones games, and nothing more. And last night was another victory for the Cyclones organization. People left the arena having had a good time with family and friends.
BTW...I thought the new logo and uniforms looked great on the ice. It's a much more professional look than what they had before.

Posted - 12/18/2014 : 12:46:16 PM I agree that there is talent on this team, but they seem to be skating around lost on the ice. As for the crowd having a good time was because of the $1 beer night, and nothing more.

Attended my first game of the season last night. Although the Cyclones lost 3-0, the majority of the crowd left the arena having had a good time and that's what it's really about at this level of hockey.
Josh Shalla can score goals but what else does he do? I kept looking for the answer to that question last night when he was on the ice.
I liked what I saw of Zach Budish. Strong skater, showed good instincts, and plays well in all three zones.

Posted - 12/16/2014 : 12:28:35 PM There's nothing wrong with being critical of the way the team plays, but if one is going to criticize, one should also give praise when things are going well.
On Saturday the team jumped out to a 4 goal lead against a sub par team playing a goalie who hasn't seen a game in a year. It was a game there would have been no excuses for had the lost. Keep in mind, they were up 4-0 but the final was 4-2. There's no excuses for taking the foot off the gas. Had that been a game against one of the top teams in the division I'm not sure they walk away with a regulation win.
Getting on the board first is a positive first step for a team that's searching for an identity. It's not about starting the game with an offensive or defensive mindset, it's about starting the game with intensity. If the opponent wins that first draw and gets the puck deep, make it miserable for them, finish checks, deny pucks and bodies from getting to the high percentage scoring areas. If the 'Clones win that first draw, get the puck deep, take high percentage chances when they're there, when they're not, keep the cycle going and the opposition running ragged until they make a mistake.
I've never been impressed with Blazek. He was impressive as a traffic barrel but not so much as a defenseman. I've got to agree that thus far it's been an upgrade. Hopefully the trade and offensive breakout is at least a baby step in the right direction. The 'Clones have lost far too many 1 goal games this season and it's usually because they end up chasing the game the early. |

Posted - 12/16/2014 : 08:26:30 AM I was in Memphis last weekend, listened to the game while my daughter played soccer, couldn't get to the board!
The win was a breath of fresh air. You are supposed to win those games and fortunately, the Cyclones came to play on Saturday night.
They are now 2-6 in December with another game Wednesday that will test the team. If there is continued play like Saturday, there will be ground made up this week.
The Blazek trade, 1 game in, looks like a very good move, I will be very interested to see how the team plays this week on home ice! |

Thanks for the extra education dbc, thoughts gots locked up a little, I guess I was thinking more along the lines of your last sentence, once the puck comes in, the opposition needs to get put on their can (within the gray area of the rules) and this doesn't happen a whole lot!
1-5 for the month of December....geesh.
Well what do you know. We have a great game on Saturday and hear crickets! Leave it to the same cast of ridiculous "fans" (here's looking at you biscuitinthebasket) to rip apart our guys when they have a bad game yet stay quiet when we win. Its amazing and sad how negative and pitiful people are on this forum. unfortunately its not that surprising.
And you wonder why we don't comment or post when all you get is a negative response from a few people. I haven't had a chance to go to many games so any comments on their play might not be valid. What did "biscuitinthebasket" say that makes him a ridiculous fan? The last game I saw they actually won 2-0 but the first period looked like one of the kiddie games in between periods where everyone goes all over the place. Keep insulting the posters and the crickets will be your response. |
