I'm not big on giving a coach just one year to prove himself, but there didn't seem to be much in-game coaching going on or adjustments being made. And missing the playoffs after sustained success doesn't portend well.

Posted - 04/13/2015 : 09:57:57 AM I think if there's any chance to the coaching staff I think it will be Cam Keith getting the boot. I rarely saw him communicate with players during a game and he generally looked out of his depth, which makes sense given he played as a forward and appeared to be in charge of running the defense.
Personally, I think given his history with the team, Coach MacDonald gets a pass on year year one. It was the addition of Matt to Skalde's staff that brought about a complete change in play, not to mention all those game played have to count for something. Matt was also saddled with a few affiliated players who were on the final year of their entry level deals and looked rather unmotivated or played rather selfishly.
Also, 2 big parts of that Cup Final team, and that started the season here, Budish and Froese, were called up early and never returned. Those two guys down the stretch would have made a big difference. That can't really be an excuse though, since call-ups are just a way of life in the ECHL. |
