I wonder how this will affect the Cyclones?

Seems to be a dying plan. U.S. Bank arena put a lot of their eggs in the basket of UC footing the bill, and moving in.

The ice at the Gardens is better than the ice at U.S. Bank Arena. The Gardens has always had good ice.

The Gardens always has good ice? Only when it's cold outside. The October games and anything later than March is potentially brutal. I'm not saying the ice at USBA is anything to rave about but if the temperature is anything above 50 with any sort of humidity the Gardens ice get really slow as condesation adheres to it. Not to mention the fog. Unless they've added AC or better ventilation I doubt that's changed. Granted, from mid November through the end of February it is probably the best sheet around, unless you count Goggin.

two year lease at full price would soften a lot of hard feelings !
Only current tenant I know of is The Rollergirls and hope they could be
worked into the arena's mix still. If not the Gardens we will be facing
shutdown or maybe close city like Dayton or Lexington .

Cincinnati, OH – June 3, 2015: The Cincinnati Thunder of the NA3HL (North American 3 Hockey League) will be playing all 22 of their home games at the Cincinnati Gardens next season. The move caps off a series of exciting changes for Cincinnati’s only junior team, which changed its name from the Cincinnati Swords to the Cincinnati Thunder early this spring as part of a rebranding package.

Hockey has always been a major attraction at the Cincinnati Gardens, an iconic sports and entertainment facility. “The Cincinnati Thunder,” said President and Head Coach Ryan Colville, “is excited to be part of continuing that tradition.”

“With this move to the Gardens for the upcoming 2015-16 season, we believe we can offer one of the most unique and exciting stadium experiences in junior hockey while focusing on achieving the players’ goals on and off the ice,” adds Colville.

“Likewise, giving the organization a fresh new look and feel (including a newly designed team logo) works well with the move,” Colville states. “Throughout these changes we remain committed to building on our strong relationship with the Queen City Hockey Association (QCHA) and their youth teams.”

While players from around the country and the world play for the Thunder, the team plans to actively work to develop local players. “The QCHA does a great job of providing local kids with exceptional resources and coaching. The Thunder Junior Organization now offers the next level of play for local kids to strive toward and graduate to within their own region,” said Colville.

The NA3HL, consisting of 34 teams in 18 states, is entering its 6th season of play in 2015-16. It serves as one of the top training grounds in the country by providing the best coaching, exposure and developmental vehicles available for student-athletes in its classification. The Thunder plays a 48 game schedule (including 22 at home, 22 on the road, and 4 games at the annual NA3HL showcase).

The Thunder games will be an entertaining brand of hockey. Hope all Cyclones fans give going to a game a try.

The Gardens never had an ax to grind against the Cyclones. They didn't understand some things, but they respected the Cyclones decision to play elsewhere. The Cyclones on the other hand were not thrilled the Gardens decided to bring in another team, and rightfully so. The AHL should never have allowed a team to come into a market where there was an established team in place.

It's been 18 years. Hopefully nearly two decades later everyone can let it go and just enjoy the opportunity to have professional hockey in Cincinnati.

So true, so true. It's uncanny how cold, hard cash can soothe even the deepest wounds.

The Cyclones can't move up to the AHL. An existing AHL team would have to relocate to Cincinnati. Because Cincinnati would be an outpost city with the closest team four hours away, the chances an NHL team would want to put their top prospects in Cincinnati is slim. Not enough practice time with the travel schedule the team would have.

Here we go again! Private ownership looking for public funding. This should get interesting.
