April 10, 2015
While promising exciting changes ahead for the upcoming 2015-2016 season, The Cincinnati Swords, a member of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), introduced the team’s new name today—The Cincinnati Thunder. The team, made up of a coaching staff of 3 and a roster of up to 25 players, has been part of the local hockey scene for several years.
“We felt the time was right to give the organization a fresh new look and feel,” said Ryan Colville, Owner, President and Coach of the team. “We have a strong relationship with the Queen City Hockey Association (QCHA) and their youth teams and remain committed to furthering that connection.”
“The QCHA does a great job of providing local kids with exceptional resources and coaching. The Thunder Junior Organization now offers something for local kids to strive toward and graduate to the next level within their own region,” added Colville. “We hope to create a unique playing experience and provide an achievable goal while advancing young players.”
“We believe the new name and logo captures the synergy of the Cincinnati marketplace. By its very nature the name Thunder reflects the kind of excitement we want to emulate on the ice—powerful, energetic, sudden, bold, and electrifying,” explained Colville.
“Likewise, for the logo we wanted something unique yet simple and easily recognizable. We enlisted the talents of two local designers, Judi Cettel, owner of Lifestyles Design, and Thomas Pearson at HotCards.com, both in Cincinnati, to work up just the right spirited appeal we were after.”
