Did anyone else catch the Free parking for season ticket holders in the intro before the game? Since being Awful night and them using the old stuff, thought it might of been from years ago.

You mean the Elvis commercial they used to play.Too bad we still don't have the free parking
deal but that's the price we pay for playing in the city.Too bad the Showboat people can get
away with free parking on the "public landing" but we get "high water" warning closure signs
or "lot full" on game days.

I remember an Elvis commercial from the 03-04 season and then "blowing it up" at the last home game. Not sure if that was the same one though.

I also heard about the free parking ...

I caught the free parking promotion also. How come they could do that several years ago but can't now?

As for the free parking lot being closed, I assume it was more a fear that we could get an unexpected freezing rain or snow and have cars and people sliding into the river. Hopefully they will open it up when we get warm weather with a low water level.

Someone please fill me in... what was the deal with Awful Night? I didn't see anything out of the ordinary... or even particularly awful.

Honestly I didnt get it either. It was kinda like a flashback because all the songs they were player were from when i was in like 6th and 7th grade (yeah i know im young).. Good try but they need to tweak it or at least explain it better for the next time

Seems like sometimes they go all out for the special events, and other times they just throw it together. Things like Throwback Night, Pink in the Rink, etc were executed beautifully while Awful Night didn't really make much of a difference and Faith Night (although the band added a lot to the atmosphere) had very little to do with any kind of faith. If they did special things for weekend games, for example, I think they could really draw people if it was a totally unique experience every time.

Speaking of the band, not exactly my type of music, but I really think it was something fun and different. I hope they do something like that more often.

Just awful music & give aways.
When we walked in instead of getting a picture of a player we got pictures of the usher that likes to dance alot & he was actually signing autographs after the game.

I thought the picture of the two "dancing ushers" was FUNNY! I loved it! That was the BEST part of "Awful Night"... They were doing a pretty good job with the "Awful" music during warmups... but they dropped the ball when the game started.

I had an idea for next years Awful Night. It would have to be a joke everyone was in on, but one of the Pee Wee hockey teams should play an adult rec-league team. Of course the youth team would be scored on easily, and the adults could prance and cheer, to the boos of all.

I would be funny.

Another failed promotion. We never got the usher picture-that would have been cool. How
about the team wearing the "original" logo which was voted the "worst logo in sports"!
How about the national anthem done with kazoos. So much could have been done but another
dropped promotional ball.

^ You're absolutely right. The fact of the matter is, there's a LOT more to a hockey game than just hockey. I'm sure anyone on this forum, including myself, would still have a great time with no music, no giveaways, and no kiss cams, but that's simply not the case for the general public.

Studies have shown that promotions are far more effective when many people are involved. That's why the Sweetheart of the Game, Pizza Giveaway, and the trivia questions are very ineffective to the spectator's experience. Opening the history books (NOT starting WWII all over again) the other team used to have the Wild Minute in which if the team scored a goal within the minute, everyone got some free BW3 wings. People would go nuts hoping that they'd score so they'd get the free wings. That's a lot more effective than the pulled pork deal in which the Clones have to score five goals and HAVE to win in order to get it. That's overcomplicated and with the commotion of winning a game by scoring 5 or more goals, you completely forget about the promotion. It really just doesn't add anything to the experience.

Back to the matter at hand. They need to do things that are clearly evident when they're doing the promotional nights. Having just a sporting event simply isn't enough in any sport.

I agree, most of the promotions suck. Obviously "Awful Night" was a bust; didn't see much faithful about Faith Night; Did we have a NASCAR night--I can't remember.
But there's a lot of other stuff going on. I personally think the pulled pork promotion is great---City Barbeque said on Saturday that they had a lot of people coming in using the tickets. There's Twister sliding on his head (sure has Bucky up in Dayton beat!), and your local heroes like HFH. Lots more T shirt giveaways then most venues.
It would be great to have some local bands play between periods; and jeez-if you are going to advertise something as "such and such night," do enough stuff to make people realize there is something different going on.

I like something along the lines of the wild minute or maybe a deal where if they score on a power play or shorthanded you get something. Maybe awful night would have been better if the jerseys were different and got auctioned off.. those always draw well
