ECHL Concludes MidSeason Board of Governors Meeting
PRINCETON, N.J. - The MidSeason ECHL Board of Governors Meeting that was held Jan. 23 in Stockton, Calif. in conjunction with the ECHL All-Star Game was officially adjourned on Feb. 26.
The following items were approved by the Board of Governors:
Myrtle Beach Granted Extension Of Voluntary Suspension
The Board unanimously approved a request from Myrtle Beach to extend its Voluntary Suspension for the 2008-09 season. The Member informed the Board that it continues to work toward construction of a facility on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
Transfer Of Membership From Texas To Ontario Approved
The Board approved a transfer of the Membership from Beaumont, Texas to Ontario, Calif. for the start of the 2008-09 season.
The Texas Wildcatters will continue to play in Beaumont through the end of the Kelly Cup Playoffs and will then cease operations.
The Ontario Reign will play under new management in the new state-of-the-art Citizens Business Bank Arena, a $130 million multi-purpose facility with 9,736 seats as well as 36 suites, a continuous concourse and a VIP club.
"We are pleased to finally officially welcome Ontario to the ECHL," said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna. "This outstanding facility and a terrific market is a great addition to our western geography."
Columbia Granted Voluntary Suspension
The Board unanimously approved a request from the Columbia Inferno for a Voluntary Suspension for the 2008-09 season as the team was told that it could not be guaranteed a lease with the Carolina Coliseum in time to meet league requirements. The Member informed the Board that they intend to continue work diligently toward a new facility in Lexington County, S.C.
2009 ECHL All-Star Game Awarded To Reading Royals
The league announced that the Reading Royals, the City of Reading and the Sovereign Center will host the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game on Jan. 21, 2009. The Royals become the first team and city in 17 years to host the annual midseason showcase twice, having had a near-capacity crowd of 6,746 for the 2005 ECHL All-Star Game.
2008-09 Playing Dates Approved
The Board unanimously approved that the 2008-09 playing season would be Oct. 17, 2008 to Apr. 4, 2009.
The league has provided a draft of the playing schedule for 2008-09 to each of the 24 teams and will release the schedule to the public in the near future
Texas is gone after this year - that's a shame.
But... there will be hockey in Cincinnati next year. :) |

| What fans? Texas is almost like the Cyclones. We both are the two best teams in the ECHL and have some of the worst attendence. It appears we may have fixed our problem (knock on wood). Let's just hope the Cyclones stay for good this time. I'm tired of losing hockey teams!!! |

| Even if it's just a few fans it's never a good feeling to lose a team. |

| I agree, but it looks like Texas is unfortunately for the few hardcore fans is bad market for hockey. You can look at the CHL attedence records and see that. |

| I feel bad for the Wildcatters. You are right they do not have many fans but they have a few hardcore ones. At least they are going out with a bang this year. If not us then I will be rooting for them to win the Cup. Don't forget who their coach is either. |

| Losing Texas is bad for them and i always hate to see a team leave but it might be good for us in a way if somehow things work out the same way they are this season. I look at them as our biggest threat for the cup. So maybe it'll help us. Columbia is losing its team too which is also sad. I wonder what Ontario will be like. |

If they use logic,Texas franchise moves to Ontario and plays in the National Pacific. Now both Nationals have 5 teams each.In the American, ours will increase to 8 with Toledo and the other will drop from 9 to 7 with Texas and Columbia sitting out.Our side needs a switch to 3 divisions of 5 teams each. How about Cincinnati, Dayton,Toledo,Wheeling and Johnstown for our division? |

| I never thought of texas being big on hockey. I thought they were more of a live, eat, sleep, breath and die football state. However, I would never want anything like this to happen to the cyclones so its kinda sad. Maybe they will make a comeback? |

Everything I've seen is Toledo in the ECHL possibly as soon as 2009-2010 since they already have hired a coach. With them not being mentioned it looks like no for 2008-2009 season so my 5 team division will have to wait and I guess stay with 7 and 7 for next year in the American |

| ^Its always good to have this in our division. We know our opponents, so we don't have to worry about losing or gaining any threats |
