Watson to remain in ’Hog lineup

Watson to remain in ’Hog lineup

ROCKFORD — Bruce Watson, a third-year Rockford IceHog forward, will remain on the team’s active roster while his domestic battery charge is investigated.

Watson, 28, practiced Tuesday and will be in uniform tonight when Rockford plays at Kalamazoo. He was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly hitting his 19-year-old girlfriend.

Rockford Police Lt. Steve Pirages said police received a call of a battery in progress at 2 a.m. in the 2900 block of LaSalle Avenue. The caller said a man was beating a woman in the street.

The woman was found outside an apartment. Police photographed her injuries, but she refused treatment by paramedics.

Watson was spotted later by police entering an apartment on LaSalle and was arrested. He was jailed without bond before being released Monday.

His court date is set for Feb. 1.

Watson has six goals and four assists in 22 games with a plus/minus of plus-9. He was an original member of the IceHogs in 1999-00 and also played for them last season.

"Once the case has been resolved, and the facts and evidence are presented, then we'll be able to sit down and make more of a determination of what will take place," said Ryan Washatka, IceHogs president/general manager. "Whether there will be a suspension, will he be with team or not be with the team.

"We have to stand behind our employees until the facts come out."

Washatka said both Watson and the team have been advised by attorneys not to comment on the case.

"It will be business as usual until more facts come out," Washatka said.

"We've had a sit-down discussion with Bruce, so he knows what is expected of him from here on out."

WLOS-TV reported last night that an Asheville Smoke hockey player was
arrested in Hendersonville and Asheville early Sunday on a variety of
charges, including burglary. Bruce Watson was first picked up in
Asheville. Police say Watson was arrested Sunday morning for
resisting a public officer, intoxication and disruptive behavior. His
bond was waived and he was allowed to sign himself out at 3:02 a.m.
But then a short while later in Hendersonville, the Sheriff's
Department says Watson yielded a baseball bat and was arrested for
assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and first-degree
burglary. Again, he was allowed to sign himself out of jail.

Think we can get Watson to take his skate off and stabb a fan?

Are you volunteering? I would be happy to just have Elmira leave their thugs at home
and play hockey. We need to see what talent they do have in prep for the playoffs.

Thanks for the info Jerico.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Give the guy a break - no pun intended...he's a fighter not a lover.
(SARCASM.)

I remember Watson from the ACHL days when I spent some time in Fayetteville, NC. The local fans loved it when he consistently assaulted and beat people down on the ice. Naturally, all opposing teams and their respective fans absolutely hated him. The question is whether his girlfriend remains a Watson fan or whether she goes over to the enemy camp.

I'm sure he loves her. If he did indeed assault her he probably just had a hockey flashback and she was the closest punching bag. They might have had an argument during which she hit him with a light crosscheck and he responded with an overhand right, followed by a heavy body blow and a massive uppercut for good measure...a simple case of self-defense = the guy was scared for his life. Maybe the Blue Jackets will see what kind of thugs they have their players with and move their affiliation back to Dayton where it is supposed to be!

Two other things,

1) @ the people who threw me under the bus for inviting you guys up during the playoffs last year. I am comming to Cincinnati and I am cheering for you for this game. So... I guess you were wrong. For that matter... with the exception of the two games remaining against us. I hope you win out the rest of your schedule.

2) Anyone who wants a second (or third) helping of yelling at Elmira, you guys are away and we play them at home that Saturday and Sunday. All are welcome, just remember your broomsticks and handcuffs.

Hmm.... yelling at Elmira is most always a go. BUT, I did try to boost your attendance by coming up for a DAY/TRE game earlier in the season, but it wasn't very well received... My question: Is your friend gonna come scream in my face again if I show up?
