What I find interesting is not Elmira clinching a playoff spot.... but Johnstown taking over the 4th spot.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Dayton also has a game in hand so it is a really tight fight for 4th place. I hope Dayton takes 4th but truth be told there is little difference since team 4 plays team 5 in the first round.

I just looked at the scores and Wheeling leads Reading 4-1 about mid way through the second period. Elmira might get 2nd place yet.

Johnstown has not done it pretty but they have been constant enough lately to be making a bid for the playoffs. Unless either of them goes on a major tear to close out the season then we are likely looking at us, Elmira and Reading getting a first round bye while Johnstown and Dayton battle it out in the first round. As CF pointed out, it really doesn't matter which finishes in 4th or 5th, as long as it's one or the other.

I'm sure they would both enjoy having 2 out of the 3 games at home in a short series though. Really doesn't matter though since whoever wins that series will lose to us anyway.

Yea look at last year. We weren't even supposed to be a playoff team and look what we did. This year we're expecting great things during the playoffs. A second round loss to Dayton or Johnstown would be an embarrassment, and I see no reason why we wouldn't whoop up on either of them.

Yup, Dayton is slowly pissing away their chances at the playoffs.

If Trenton won all 12 remaining games they would finish with 73 points. Dayton has 13 games left and would only need 12 points (6 wins or less with some OT losses) to finish ahead of Trenton with 74 points. Trenton isn't going to win them all and I don't think Dayton is going to crash and burn bad enough to miss playoffs.

I guess anything can happen in the playoffs, but I think it's important to distinguish between this season and last season.

Last year, the Cyclones went 16-16-3 after the all-star break. Really, they were a sub.500 team (16-19).

This year post all-star break, the team is 20-1 with 15 games remaining.

I think it's safe to say that this year's team is playing a wee bit better than last year's during the second half

i just meant that we were up 3 games to 1 over dayton and they came back and took the series. The playoffs are a whole new game. I doubt that will happen this year but you really never know

btw - thanks for the beer dude.

Now on to the nitty gritty.

Dayton is pretty much done with road games after last weekend. We have four left. I think we were all surprised to pick up as many points as we did on our long road swing (we didn't play at the NC for a month, and only played one "home" game at Hobart.)

Team C D E J R T W
CIN 15 0 2 1 4 3 2 3
DAY 13 2 0 4 1 1 3 2
ELM 14 1 4 0 1 3 3 2
JHN 12 4 1 1 0 2 1 3
REA 13 3 1 3 2 0 2 2
TRE 12 2 3 3 1 2 0 1
WHL 13 3 2 2 3 2 1 0

Here's the grid of remaining games.

I think Johnstown has the hardest road to hoe from here on out with seven of their 12 remaining games against you guys, Reading and Elmira. Same thing with Trenton, which is why I think Dayton has a darn good shot in finishing above fifth.

As I said on the board before Cincinnati and Wheeling could prove spoilers in this whole race. Wheeling because they have nothing to play for and Cincinnati because they want to B-Cup.

IMO this is going to come down very tight between 2nd and 5th place in this division.
