Great article. All season we've been treated to watching a player whose talent is far beyond the ECHL level. Weber says: 1) If he were 4 inches taller he'd be in the NHL NOW. 2) The Montreal/Hamilton organization would be "stupid" not to re-sign him.
Thank goodness that Hamilton's coach Don Lever has proved to be pretty stupid this season. If Desharnais would have been given a realistic shot in the AHL-more than 4 games in the midst of a deep slump by the entire Hamilton team-then we wouldn't have had the opportunity to see DD after December. But, Desharnais has probably benefitted from staying here. Being a dominant player certainly increases one's confidence. Also, without him, I doubt that the Cyclones would be such a dominant team.
For his sake, I hope he signs with an organization which a) truly recognizes his supreme talents and b) is not all hung up on the size issue. I doubt he'll have any problem getting a one-way AHL deal in the off season.
