I know this isn't related to hockey, directly, but some of us had talked about going to see Doug Kirchhofer's Tenn. Smokies play a baseball game this summer. He is the Pres. of the team.
Is anyone interested in going the weekend of August. 22nd? We were thinking since most people can't get off of work to go on Sat. the 23rd and return on the 24th. The team is playing Thurs., Fri. Sat. and Sun. in case you would be able to go and see more than one game.
Mr. Kirchhofer would love to see some of the fans who supported him and the hockey team and this would be a fun way to accomplish that.
The Tenn. Smokies play in a new ballpark about 225 mi. from Cincinnati; at the intersection of I-40 (exit 407) and St. Rt. 66. This is the exit to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Ticket prices are about $9; hotel would be about $50/night. Doug will take care of getting the tickets and the rooms for us. There is a picnic area at the ballpark where you can have an 'all you can eat' picnic buffet for $15 and that includes a ticket to the game. Or there are two 'patios' you can reserve for a group. Also a 'deck' in the outfield that can be reserved for groups. Lots of options.
If you are interested in going that weekend please email me and I'll get in touch with Doug to make the arrangements. Right now the Smokies are in 1st place. Their MLB affiliate is the St. Louis Cardinals. If you need more information you can go to: www.smokiesbaseball.com
FYI, if you are planning on going that weekend you better find out about hotels rooms now. That is the same weekend as the Saturday Night NASCAR race in Bristol Tenn. I made my hotel reservations for the race last October. Most of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg do supply rooms for the race. Just a heads up.
Thanks for the heads up on the race at Bristol in August. I talked to Mr. Kirchhofer and you were right.....there are no rooms available close to the ballpark. So, it looks like we will plan on going sometime next Spring. This will give us plenty of time to plan when the new schedule comes out for the Tenn. Smokies. Doug said he was disappointed that we weren't going to make it but was looking forward to seeing everyone in the Spring. He sends his regards to all the Cyclones fans.
