If you think there is intent to harm or injure in a hockey fight, you have got it all wrong. Fighting in hockey is about honor and players policing the game themselves. If you take a cheap shot at one my top line players, your enforcer will be facing our enforcer next shift. I refer you to an excellent book by Ross Bernstein called "The Code: The Unwritten Rules of Fighting and Retaliation in thge NHL" It was written during the lockout and in it, many players are interviewed, from the stars to the enforcers, from many different eras. |

| I'm sorry Divorceki, and with all due respect to a fellow clone fan, that is the most ridiculous thing i've ever read. I have to drop my Hockey fan Gloves and pick up my 15 year experience as an ER nurse who has seen Globe Blowouts of the eyes, Orbit fractures, skull fractures from some thing simple as 1 punch to the face. Every time they drop the Gloves and fight there is an inherent danger of someone getting hockey career ending injury. Absolutly the guys are trying to rough each other up, Are they intending to end someones careers, no but if one or the other walks away shakey or with a couple of stictches the other guy really don't care that much. Seriously when they fight they intend to hurt on another. Your book may say what it says, and I'll give it a chance. |

| Sorry Divorceki, I think ridiculous is alittle strong. didn't mean to offend or insult....If nether guy got "HURT" after a fight then what deterent would it be to have an enforcer...thats all i'm saying...sorry again...eric |

| It's absurd to even discuss ruling out fighting in hockey. You don't have to do much work to see leagues where it's already been removed and you can see the result: a lot more slashing and stickwork to retaliate and get at each other. It's here to stay, and for good reason, the alternative is far worse. |

| Sorry puckhead, I'm not advocating to remove fighting from hockey. It was said that during a hockey fight neither player is out to hurt the other.....I disagree, I think they are out to kick each others a$$. Stitches, Knocking each other out one way or the other. I think that the intention is there to harm one another. Maybe harm is too strong a word, but each other wants to make the other know he's been in a fight. And sure there is a bit of honor in it if you will, but make no mistake they are out to hurt one another. I'm just as happy to see a fight as the next guy |

Hurting the other guy severely is not the intention of the fight though if someone is truly playing the game "the right way". Sure, there's pieces of garbage who hit people when they're down, but it's the minority. The most serious injuries usually happen in other ways, not from the fights themselves. I rarely see someone who is fighting because they want to severely injure another player. Maybe a broken nose at worst, or some missing teeth. But not hospital-required injuries for the most part. |

Was it that ugly ? I know that once a few jerks threw their cups and bottles, more rained down but not as many as depicted here. I say that this article was written to pump up their team and fans. B S !!
I gave a few licks to the Ref that night(I didn't throw a thing to make it clear), but I don't know how things were over at the benches. |

| Alright, I see your point and after nearly 15 years of being a hockey fan I can also admit that I have never seen a serious fighting injury...like I said maybe "INTENT TO HARM" is too strong a phrase, but they still are in it to kick each other A$$. Come to think of it the unfortunate fights I have gotten into a school years ago, I never wanted to seriously injure anyone. I would suppose hockey fights are the same |
