Saw in the morning rag that the PHPA/ECHL is on strike. I sure hope they get their act together quickly. Training camp is supposed to start on October 3. |

I was talking to the ticket rep with the Cyclones and here is his info on the strike. The plan now is the season WILL START ON TIME!! If the strike is not settled, the teams will use replacement players until it is.I know this can sound wrong to some, but this is ECHL level hockey and any replacement players may be a diamond in the rough that we find. He was telling me that players are signing with the UHL because of this strike, but my guess is the San Jose players will still be heading to us and teams may just have to fork some money to the UHL teams to get their old players back. |

Good news hockey friends!!! The strike is over!!! Hot dog! Now we'll be able to welcome the players officially.
I am guessing that by this weekend, we'll see a lot of announcements, & training camp will open in less than a week.
Any body else been having hockey withdrawal? I sure have. |
Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

Oh... I'm hoping we start hearing about player signings today.
And, yes, I've been having a lot of withdrawal. Luckily, I have my tapes and PS2 games. :) |

| I've heard through the grapevine that Phil Osaer and Dean Stork might be coming to play for the Cyclones. |

Details of the deal from the PHPA:
PHPA Declares Strike Over Major Points of New Collective Bargaining Agreement Ratified Complete Language to be Finalized
(St. Catharines, ON) - The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) and the ECHL announced today that they have ratified the major points of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Effective 3:00 PM EST, the player strike against the ECHL is officially over. This comes as a result of intense negotiations over the past week between PHPA and ECHL representatives resulting in the framework for a new, three-year Agreement. It requires finalization in terms of complete CBA language, which should be accomplished by the end of October, and training camps will start on schedule.
The major points of the new CBA include:
$10,000 per week salary cap with no Player Assistants, rising to $10,500 in the third year; An extended off-ice insurance plan for players and their families; A reserve system that allows Clubs to qualify eight (8) players; An Employee Assistance Plan (EAP) that provides players 24 hour access to medical counseling; and A veteran rule that allows four (4) veteran players per Club with the number of games to qualify being 288 games, dropping to 260 games in year three.
"We are confident this Agreement is reflective of the times," stated Larry Landon, PHPA Executive Director. "It protects and advances a number of issues that are essential to the well-being of the Membership and their families."
This announcement allows teams to commence player signings, both foreign and domestic, as the Unfair Labor Practice charges relating to the strike have been withdrawn.
