My take was the Las Vegas coach said the same thing we have been saying-the hockey
fans are not the bottle-throwers but instead it's the bandwagon bums who come down
and don't respect the game,the team or the fans around them.These are the same who
"mug for the cameras" in the background when a news camera goes on.I'm glad to see they
reported that they had some of our rowdy type fans also. |

| Well, without the bandwagon jumpers our attendance would never reach the 5,6,7 thousand range they have been hitting.....lets just hope the respectable one will stay with us next season. |

bags - I think you're dead-on about the situation, as I've been saying all along, but I also think it's LAME (for lack of a better term) that this LV paper writer took so much time before the series went to LV ranting about the "hooligan", oh-so terrible actions of the fans that threw stuff in Cincinnati, only to have it happen there and he looks like an idiot.
The bottom line, just like you said and like it has been all along - is that there were a large amount of bandwagon fans in both buildings in this series to see a Championship and yes both had attendees who got carried away and threw stuff. While not trying to complain (if anyone knows me, I hate to), I do think it's lame the way the Las Vegas writers went out of their way to rant and rave about the bottle throwers here instead of the actual game, only to have it happen there. You're right, both should just acknowledge that it happens in those situations and be done with it. A friend told me who was watching and getting the Vegas feed on B2 that the announcers said "You don't live in Cincinnati!" when stuff was thrown last night. |

I was in Detroit for game five and when Pittsburgh tied it up in the 3rd at least two beer bottles were thrown on the ice... I lost count of how many Octopi (?) were thrown; at least 20. Supposedly the NHL was going to fine Detroit $10,000 per. Of course they made that back selling six periods worth of beer.
So even those fans have issues. I won't even talk about the fights started in the concourse after the game. The arena staff filmed the fights from above but no one was there to break them up (not that you could break through that mass of humanity). |

When the say"you don't live in Cincinnati"line,we all cringe but let's face it-we deserve
that remark in Las Vegas's eyes due to what a few did. How many times have we talked bad
about Fort Wayne or Toledo fans because what they did.The way to redeem ourselves is for
management to make a big "splash" on any further misconduct and to make sure this action
does not become a symbol of a game in Cincinnati.If god forbid we lose Thursday,I hope
no one is a sore head again and throws things on the ice.If they do,I want to here about
arrests in the paper on Friday! |

Once again, not trying to complain and start another useless pissing match, but I will comment. I agree with you bags, however I think it is an unfair comparison. Talking bad about about Toledo fans is deserved as it is during a normal, regular season game when fans of the opposite team gets food thrown at them on a consistent basis. Not that I personally care, you can go back and look through all 599 of my posts and always see me commenting on the game, even if something stupid happens in the stands, it's not worth talking about to me.
What happened in Cincinnati was during the Kelly Cup Finals and God knows they had to have a clue that with nearly 9,000 people in attendance (not to mention $1 beer night), there surely were a number of folks there who would have normally been at home that night waiting for the Bengals season/watching the Reds on TV.
My point wasn't so much about the comment by the broadcaster as that is all good-natured (just like us saying "you don't live in Cleveland") but more of the Las Vegas paper going WAY over the top commenting about how Cincinnati has an "ECHL fan base so offensive it makes soccer hooligans seem pleasant." << That is a direct quote from the article I'm referring to. I just think it's a little stupid when you go out of your way to make such a big deal about a couple of bottles thrown on the ice just to stereotype and make a whole city look like bad, when, this is the FINALS, civilians of both cities - Cincinnati and Vegas - are coming out of the woodworks to watch a Championship played in their town. It happens. I just think it's funny how the writer stereotyped just Cincinnati for those actions and yet a week later it happens in his precious building. Maybe he got a reality check about it. |

We all are on the same page here.Some of these same bandwagon bums will come back next year
and I figure that one out of six will turn into "real" fans and we won't have to worry about
throwing from them.The other 5 out of six will show up at big promotions or big games.All
we can hope is they will "grow up" when they return.Until they do,let's get some ushers who
can control the crowd and I wouldn't mind seeing about ten more POLICE OFFICERS IN UNIFORM
and maybe ten in street clothes tucked in the crowd for protection for these last two games. |

| I heard that statement by the LV announcer. One announcer was talking about looking forward to coming back to Cincy and getting some Skyline chili, Larosa's and Greaters. The other one said multiple times "C'mon you don't live in Cincinnati". The dude totally missed the chance to speak the truth and say these finals are so great they are getting awesome attendance which of course will bring out hte idiots. He did say that the LV idots aren't normal fans but failed to recognize our resident idiots aren't the regular fan either. |

| Well I think it's worth noting that Todd Dewey at least DID mention it in his article...he didnt have to, but in fairness to us, he did. With the exception of the knucklehead Las Vegas announcer, I think all involved realize it's the fair weather fan who throws things or the one who cant control his emotions. It was a little schizo, but cool to listen to the LasVegas broadcast on b2tv and Hammer on 96rock at the same time. |

It was nice that he mentioned it (if ever so slightly) in his article when he didn't have to. But considering the barrage of nasty comments we had to deal with in Vegas, I think it was owed to us. I mean, the first two games were interesting to say the least.
Before Thursday's game, the fans were fairly pleasant, welcoming us and thanking us for making the trip. Then there were a few who were pretty condescending and making the "So are you guys going to throw garbage on our players when you lose?" Then they'd laugh, like it was all a big joke. Ha ha! We took it in stride, but it did get pretty freaking old. Then we won that game, and those fans got pretty pissy and the comments came back out, but there was no laughing afterward.
They were much more easy to deal with on Friday night of course when the Wranglers won and they were in good spirits. LOL A few joking comments about throwing stuff, but they were too excited that the series was tied up again to make a big deal out of it.
Monday's game was good. There were no comments made and of course we won. They all congratulated us and said we deserved it because the Wranglers just didn't show up that game. The only incident we had was with some crazy Wranglers fan that came over and was trying to pick a fight with just about anyone. I don't think any of us figured out what he was yelling about. But another few Wranglers fans chastized him and took him to security then many people, including security came over to apologize to us.
Las Vegas has the same problems we do. Bandwagon fans and misinformed fans. The ones making the comments were ones that only read the articles and listened to their announcer. The ones that sent the guy to security and made our visit very pleasant were the ones that made the trip to Cincinnati. |
