Just some things I need to speak about...
#1, I spoke to Wildman Walker after the game last night, and he said he was planning a celebration at his bar, Boomerangs, in St. Bernard, which is the city I grew up in. I'll be calling him tonight and I will let you know what goes down and when.
I just want everyone to know that I thoroughly enjoyed the ride the Cyclones sent everybody on last night. Everytime I think about the Cincinnati Cyclones, I can now truly think of them as champions. We set an ECHL record with 71 combined wins. We have the MVP, leading scorer, and coach of the year. Ceddy was the king of all playoff players. Patrick J. Kelly himself gave us his piece last night. What more can you say about any team in the history of the ECHL, or hockey for that matter.
2007-2008 gave us the best team to ever hit the ice in the history of hockey. When I say that, I talk about teams that took it all away. I layed in my bed last night before I finally went to sleep and I thought about all the teams in hockey history that were just as successful as us and failed to bring it home.... teams like:
1995-96 Detroit Red Wings
2001-02 Louisiana IceGators (remember them?)
2005-06 Red Wings
2007-08 Texas Wildcatters
and so on...
But what makes us not part of that list is the hardware we celebrate this summer. I only wish we could keep this going, but I know the season has to end somehow. 133 days from now, though, we will once again converge upon US Bank Arena, where we will have four fresh new banners await our presence, (hopefully old and) new faces and heroes will emerge, and another run at the Kelly Cup is made. No matter how the story of the 2009 season gets told, no doubt we will be ready to push them through.
Let's make this the best summer Cincinnati hockey fans have ever had, and lets all meet back at US Bank Arena on October 25, ready to clobber the Dayton Bummers, and ready to relive the thrill ride all over again!
