The Bulldogs exercised their options on Beau and DD. There was a lot of wondering this season about whether they would take a chance on DD or not. I say very smart move.

Hate to see 'em go, but with the year the Clones had, this was to be expected. Best of luck to DD and Beauregard!

Now that makes one wonder- Who will JOpuckgirl have to root for next season with her boy Beau gone---- and with DD leaving I have to find someone else to follow as well. :( That's okay though, goodluck guys, this is the world of minor league hockey!

Great news for them. But doesn't that mean that Hamilton can assign them to Cincy?

Yes both of them have to make the Hamilton squad or they will be coming back to Cincinnati. I believe they have two way contracts (AHL/ECHL)

That's awesome for Beau and DD. Congratulations!! It sucks to see them go, but I never expected either of them to stay. Like HOCKEYgod said, such is the life of a minor league hockey fan!

What you do today can change the course of your life far into the future. Today is critical. Today really counts.

It's awesome their careers are advancing - it's the name of the game! Hopefully we'll recruit rookies just like them!! ;-)

Good to see this, I just hope we'll be getting a majority of this years team back. I know it is very unprobable with the way each player performed but I can hope.

As much as I'll miss them both, Beau and DD deserve a chance higher up! There will always be plenty of great guys to root for on the Cyclone roster!

I have a question, maybe someone more versed in the hockey business can help me: (Forgive me if this question is exceedlingly dumb).

With the Clones being the Double-A farm club for Nashville and Montreal, is it likely that any of the players drafted in next week's NHL draft play for the Cyclones? How exactly does a double-A farm club get its players, if they're not drafted? Do the coaches scout their own talent and sign them as they see fit or do the parent clubs assign players to the team? Thanks for any help!

Most players are drafted when they are 18 to 20 years old. They are often drafted while still having junior (Canadian or US) or college eligibility left. So, many of the players drafted in this year's draft will remain with their current amateur teams. Most of the drafted players in the ECHL are picks which have been taken a few years earlier.

AA teams tend to (not always) get the lower round draft picks when they turn pro. On this year's Cyclones, the Montreal/Hamilton affiliated players were:

Desjardins-undrafted. Signed by Hamilton to AHL/ECHL contract.
Desharnais and Beauregard were of the same status.

The other Montreal prospects we had (with appoximate draft round/year of draft) were:

Gleed-7th Round 2004
Aubin-4th Round 2004
Urquhart-2nd Round 2002
Stewart-8th/9th Round ??
Bonneau-9th Round 2004

You are correct about the coaches recruiting and signing. AHL organizations also recruit and sign free agents. Some of them play in the ECHL.

Coaching at this level is as much as a recruiting game as an X's and O's proposition. Weber can do both. Obviously. His most impressive recruiting to me was nabbing Reynolds and Martin from Div III Meryhurst College. Martin already has an AHL deal for next season, and if Reynolds could bulk up a bit and win a few more battles along the boards than he currently does, then I don't think that it would be an outlandish reach to suggest that he could develop into a 3rd/4th line, penalty killing AHLer.
