| so even though it hasn't been announced i've seen it mentioned in writting several times is it safe to assume we are montreal's affiliate again next season? |

I would say nothing is in writing. (Other than on these boards)
Reading is announcing something Wednesday (they lost their affiliation to Ontario) so I imagine that will start the affiliation announcements soon.
Coach Weber has not caught on with anyone yet so I would guess that is a good sign for our situation. I think our affiliation agreements were huge in our Kelly Cup run. I only hope the parent clubs will see things that way and re-up with us. |

Count me in the semi-shocked category regarding Weber. I can't believe that no AHL team hired him. I don't follow the AHL closely, so there may have been only a few openings, or the situations weren't ideal for Weber.
I wouldn't see any reason why Montreal and Nashville wouldn't continue their affiliations with us. Desharnais, Martin and Desjardins made great progress last year here. Stewart already has gotten a cup of coffee in the NHL. It would seem that it would be hard to have much more success with prospects than Montreal has had here.
Nashville's prospects here: Schmidt, Maki, G-Morris, Martinson and Sixsmith all would have appeared to have benefitted from their time here.
If Weber returns-and the clock is ticking with respect to him going elsewhere-I would think that each of our affiliates would be glad to re-up. Where else would they rather be? Dayton? |

chuck has always seemed like the type of coach that like helping these kids get better at the game of hockey. sure he wants to work his way up to be playing for calder and then stanley instead of kelly, but he also seems like the type of coach that wants to do it his way. he has a good thing here and i don't think he's the type to jump a level just to go. if the right opportunity comes up; one that actually allows him to be a coach and not the puppet of the parent club, then i think he's gone. until that opportunity comes along (and eventually it will) i think he'll stick with what works.... |

Good points Elvis77.
When I talked to him at Wildman's Bar a few weeks back, he was fairly clear that he wouldn't take an AHL job just for the sake of being at the higher level.
Mike Haviland, who coached Atlantic City to the Kelly Cup in 03-04 got a good AHL opportunity and his name has surfaced as a potential candidate of NHL head coaching jobs this off season. Weber will get his AHL chance. I'm sure next season will be his last here. His lack of playing credentials combined with his relative youth are probably the two factors which worked against him for advancement this year.
AHL GM's can't all be blind to a talent like Weber. He won't disappoint when given his chance. |

I think the AHL head coach almost has to be a puppet to the NHL club. The NHL club is going to tell you who to play and manage all their prospects (look at Rochester last season who wanted to bench the prospects and play the veterans, they lost their affiliation).
Chuck has more freedom in the ECHL and is excelling in this environment. His success in the ECHL will get him promoted but maybe not this season.
Chuck would also do exceeding well with US college hockey. He likes to teach and recruit and that would be right up his alley. |

I also think that Divison I hockey would be a good fit for him.
My impression, though, is that he has set his sights on the NHL and believes that the AHL route would better serve his purpose.
Junior Hockey in Canada would be another good option for him. Junior Coaches are often hired as NHL head coaches. |
