This is a question not related to hockey but since people work in Ohio post here I figured this would be a great place.

My employer told me recently that if no one volunteers to work overtime that they will be forcing it shortly. I've worked there for two years now and I'm the third highest in senority of the department out of 40-45 employees.

I've googled and found answers that aren't recent and blurry. I understand that I should be grateful but I hate my job with a passion because I'm not given anything in return for my hard work and for the ideas I've provided that being implemented now.

I have been told that in the event of necessity my employer can draft overtime workers in the order of lower seniority before higher seniority. I don't know where or even if that is written in law. They have always gotten enough volunteers so nobody has ever had reason to challenge the idea.

Get Clones instead of Clunkers.

Each company, unless ran by the government, can make their own rules as to the amount of hours they schedule you, as long as it is within the requirements of EOE, etc. As long as they are not discriminating against race, man/woman ratio, etc, they can probably set you for as many hours as needed, or they'll find somebody that will work them.

Its a crappy situation, but like you said, you can be happy your not part of the 14% unemployment rate right now. My job just knocked me down to 32 hrs a week, so I'll gladly switch jobs with ya LOL

We do it by reverse seniority. We have to maintain minimum staffing. So once your number is called you get stuck.
