While there are arena issues involved, it's hard for me to discount the fact that revenues haven't grown to where they should due to the lack of competitiveness of the team. MacLean was a disaster from the start who should have been fired very early in his tenure. He'll never be given the reigns of an NHL franchise again, that's for sure.
No playoff appearances in 8 years is a joke. The ice was finally broken last year on that sorry streak. Columbus can't be expected to pay average NHL prices for a product that-until recently-has been more AHL than NHL.
