I'm not going to get involved with the wars, just tired of it and it needs to go away. The thing I never liked was the name. It appealed to KIDS (not that it's a problem)and never stuck well with me. It also has to do with the longevity of the team. Kind of like the Reds AA teams, Chattanoogo Lookouts and now Carolina Mudcats. No matter what parent team is there, they will always be that name. Don, did this play in the name at all ? Had the team been named the Railraiders all along, Would they have been as successful ? DOn't know, just my opinion tho. |

Unless the team is owned and operated by the parent club, affiliations come and go so it's best not to use the same name as the parent club. When you do that, every time there's an affiliation change you have to re-launch and re-brand.
Because there were two teams the Mighty Ducks name was a wise decision at the time. It gave them instant credibility. If they had been the only team, then RailRaiders would have been the better choice. |
