What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Their rent-a-coach/GM must've been focusing on posting the Chiefs up on eBay while he was on the bench.... not that it showed with the 6-2 loss.

It's not final yet, but it sure doesn't sound good. The 'Clones have 2 more weekend dates there (1 Saturday and 1 Sunday) and I'm going to do as much as I can to make sure I get to one of them. The Cambria War Memorial is a great old minor league barn, if you've never been there I suggest you try and make one of the games.

Professional hockey poised to return to Greenville

Buzz up!Twitter FarkIt Type Size A A A The Greenville Arena District Board agreed to a memorandum of understanding with the Johnstown Chiefs, a Pennsylvania-based East Coast Hockey League franchise, to move the team to the Bi-Lo Center for the start of the 2010-2011 season in October.

The deal is for five years and would bring 36 home regular season games to the ice each season, the board said today.
The owners of the Johnstown Chiefs plan to move the franchise to Greenville, where hockey would return to the Bi-Lo Center rink for the 2010-2011 season, Cannon said.
Cannon said the board had talked with several ECHL teams and felt that hockey could return to popularity in Greenville.

They seem to feel that it will work again and we agree with them, Cannon said. Weve had a lot of inquiries through the Bi-Lo Center and just in general talk from people who are certainly interested in hockey in Greenville.

Greenville has been without a minor league hockey team since the Greenville Grrrowl folded following the 2005-2006 season.

Cannon said the board feels the demographic in Greenville has changed since then with a new influx of business and industry bringing people to the Upstate who grew up playing hockey and would make it an attractive sport for Greenville.

Wed look at what the Greenville Drive has done with baseball and we feel like using the same business model, making it affordable family entertainment can work for hockey, he said.

Citing six-figure financial losses last year and an average of less than 2,000 fans per game this season, the owners of the Johnstown Chiefs have sought permission from the ECHL to move the organization and have begun contract negotiations to lease the Bi-Lo Center, the team announced Sunday.

The team has played in Johnstown since 1988 and currently plays at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. It is one of only five original ECHL teams that has played in the same location since the ECHL formed in 1988-1989.

The teams owners said financial considerations was the sole reason for the proposed move and left open the possibility that the team could be sold to any potential ownership group that would keep professional hockey in Johnstown, the team said.

I was always wondering why Johnstown didn't try a second town for a
partial split of schedule to save the team. Don't forget one of the
most famous team with two homes-the Green Bay/Milwaukee Packers!!
If Johnstown could have found another town close by for 30% of it's
games, maybe the team could have eased the financial burden of the
Johnstown fan's with a smaller schedule while adding a new fan base
with a short schedule there. The second article from Wheeling is
understandable. The point they must realize is do you want a shorter
home schedule or NO home schedule. Your ticket buying will tell the
Wheeling owners that. The same point can also be directed here. If
our attendance slips to a level they aren't making a profit- we could
go elsewhere also.

Sad to see the Chiefs go. Last original ECHL team. But the league is hell-bent on building a southern fan base so I guess adding Greenville and eventually Columbia will do that

Let's look at this from a different angle. This year we were loaded
down with week day games because the USBA wanted to save weekends for
concerts,wrestling... What about if two of the Tuesday or Wednesday
games were instead played Saturday night at Miami University. Travel
would still be possible for us, but more important a bigger crowd
on Saturday instead of around 1100 if held here during the week.
If Wheelimg can move a few low weekday games to a weekend in Johnstown,
wouldn't this be smart business?
