Former cup of coffee Cincinnati Cyclone and Miami Redhawks alum Dan Boyle, and Cincinnati Mighty Duck playoff players Corey Perry, and Ryan Getzlaf win the Gold for Canada and the best coach the Ducks had IMO, Mike Babcock led the team

08, 09, 13 North Division Champions

I always have to root for Canada now in the Olympics. It's their game and their passion. They've got to be the best at something It's not like it was in 1980. It's a professional exhibition. I wish they'd go back to the old format, but they won't.

The only real Cincinnati connection to the whole deal was Babcock. The other three played a grand total of 26 games in Cincinnati (Boyle 13, Perry 3, Getzlaf 10) . I couldn't even remember Boyle or Perry playing here. All three began their pro careers at the conclusion of their final junior/college seasons in Cincinnati and moved on the following year.

If the ECHL claims guys like Pierre Parenteau as one of their NHL alumni, then Boyle, Getzlaf and Perry qualify as a Cincinnati connection. Getzlaf and Perry would have played most of the 2005-06 season here had the affiliation with Anaheim continued. Boyle was signed as a free agent by Florida after his stint with the Cyclones.

I enjoyed the Olympics more when it was the amateurs competing. The World Junior Championships shows it can still be done the old way in ice hockey. Canada, USA, Russia, Czech, Finland, Slovakia, Sweden would all field very competitive teams, with players on each roster that have been or would be drafted by NHL teams, including first-round picks.

And also.......

Former Cincy Mighty Ducks net-minder Tom Askey has landed in K-zoo.

I know this has nothing to do with the Olympics topic but just thought I'd pass this along.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

ZINGER!!!!!

He's a former K-Wing as well.

From what I hear he's in basically as another EBUG of sort. He's apparently not going to be around but for the weekend, if rumors are true. A lot of rumors that the Wings are going to try and sign a college goalie to back up Nie, because Jeremy Duchesne made Adrondack's list of course because they have nobody else in the system to back up Backlund.
