Former WHA Cincinnati Stingers defenseman and current ESPN hockey analyst Barry Melrose: "That doesn't matter. The thing that matters at the end of the day is that there's going to be hockey again in Cincinnati, and it's going to be exciting. All those things will change once you get in the building and you start cheering for the RailRaiders. It's a new team. It will be a new jersey that you can get excited about. There will be new players in here that you can get excited about and fall in love with. Hockey's hockey. Hockey fans gotta be in the building. Hockey fans gotta be cheering. Hockey fans gotta be meeting players. And, hockey fans gotta be talking hockey. It doesn't matter if you're a Cyclones fan, a Mighty Ducks fan, or whatever. Get behind this new team, make it your team, or you're not going to have a team. And that's what you've got to decide: Am I going to be petty and worry about which color jersey I have and not have any team, or am I going to get behind this group of guys that are putting money out, working hard, and trying to make this work for next season? If you're honest -- and are a true hockey fan -- you'll get behind these guys and help them, and become part of the start of something great here in Cincinnati, something you'll be proud of the rest of your life. Hopefully in 15 years your grandchildren are coming to the games here, and you can say 'I was part of the start and I got in on the initial and was part of the group that got the first 2,000 season tickets to start things' ... it's something you can be proud of. You can't let petty stuff like that get in the way of the big picture, and the big picture is getting hockey back into a city that's had hockey here since the 50's. It's sad there's no hockey in Cincinnati this season." |
