This just so happened to pop up on Facebook today:

Cincinnati Cyclones RT @QuickFacts: Roseville native Mark Van Guilder has signed AHL deal with @mkeAdmirals. He had 5g-10a in (cont) http://tl.gd/2cqph1

GOOD! I think it was Junior from Section 60 that once asked me if the 2008 Kelly Cup was worth everyone leaving after the year... I can definitley tell you it was. Guys like Mark Van Guilder leaving for a promotion he richly deserves definitley proves the 2010 Kelly Cup was well worth it as well!

Good Luck in AAA!

KELLY CUP CHAMPIONS- 2008, 2010
AMERICAN/EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS- 2008, 2010, 2014
DIVISION CHAMPIONS- 1996, 2008, 2009, 2013
2008 BRABHAM CUP CHAMPIONS
Boards + visitors = broken bones!

To be fair, he didnt "leave", he was already under contract with Milwaukee when they sent him back down here last season b/c there was no room in Milwaukee for him to play, not to mentioned their season ended before ours :)

But yes, good for him, he should actually get playing time now. Assuming he is healthy.

But it doesn't say if it is a two-way contract or not.

My guess, given his low stats and playing time in Milwaukee last year, is that it is a two way contract. Not sure he has the quickness to play full time at the AHL level.

I had the same conversation the other day with a buddy in chicago. Is there such a thing as just an AHL contract, or are they all 2 ways, be it NHL-AHL or AHL-ECHL?

The way Milwaukee handles its players, I will think Van Guilder could find his way back in a Cyclones uniform for at least 5 games next season. Milwaukee has a tendancy to sit players as everybody has grown to know.

I'm glad to hear that VanG will get another AHL contract.

I had feared that his low level of production and limited playing time wouldn't have earned another contract, but I guess the injuries were severe enough and his attitude good enough to warrant another shot.

I saw him play for Hamilton two years ago and he didn't play the same style which he does in Cincinnati. Hopefully, his health and comfort level will allow him to demonstrate at least a portion of the offensive savvy he so frequently shows in the ECHL.

Has there been an announcement of any affiliation agreements yet? Everything seems to be on hold given the Weber situation, so I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the affiliations for 2010-11 haven't been firmed up yet.

The organization has a history of not announcing the status quo. They did not make any formal statement regarding Coach Weber or the affiliates last summer. Basically, no news is good news in regards to the coach and affiliates.

The only affiliate announcement I have seen is between Toldeo and Detroit. I agree, no news is good news.

There is a one way contract between the NHL and AHL. The NHL club can still send the player down but they have to pay his full NHL salary. On the two way deal, the player only makes his NHL salary while he's called up. Kind of like pro-rated salary. I'm not sure how anything other than a two way contract would work with the ECHL given the salary cap.
