http://cycloneshockey.com/team-news/cyclones-announce-partnership-florida-panthers
The Cincinnati Cyclones announced today that they have entered into a minor league affiliation agreement with the Florida Panthers (NHL) and Rochester Americans (AHL) for the 2010-11 season. The Florida Panthers will begin their seventeenth year in the NHL this fall. In 2009-10, the Panthers finished fourth in a tightly contested Southeast Division. While the Washington Capitals ran away with the race, only six points separated the second and fourth place teams. Peter DeBoer enters his third year as the Panthers head coach, while former Columbus Blue Jackets assistant Gord Murphy joins the club as an assistant. DeBoer skated in his final season as a player in 1991 with the Milwaukee Admirals (IHL), and was teammates with former Cyclones forward Todd Hawkins. At the American Hockey League (AHL) level, the Cyclones will be affiliated with the Rochester Americans who are now lead by former Cincinnati coach Chuck Weber. The Americans are one of the oldest franchises in the AHL, celebrating their 54th consecutive season in the American Hockey League in 200910. Last season, Rochester finished second in the North Division with a 44-33-2-1 record. They have earned a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs in four of the last seven years. Were very excited to be joining the Florida Panthers family, said Cyclones Owner Ray Harris. They are dedicated to building hockey and its talent from the ground up. There is also a great comfort level knowing that Chuck Weber will be in the fold as well. We are very pleased to have entered into an affiliation agreement with Cincinnati, said Florida Panthers Assistant GM Mike Santos. The entire Cyclones organization has done a tremendous job developing players in a healthy and winning environment over the last several years. With Rochester and Cincinnati, we are now associated with two great organizations that are committed to helping our prospects grow and develop into complete players. The defending Kelly Cup Champion Cyclones open their home schedule on Saturday, October 30 at U.S. Bank Arena against the Wheeling Nailers. Discounted ticket packages for the 2010-2011 season are available now. For more information, call 513.421.PUCK (7825) extension 3 or visit CyclonesHockey.com. |

Does this mean both the nashville and Montreal relationships are over? Would have loved to have one or both the goalies back from last year. Also liked having two relationships rather than one |

Looks like the Nashville affilation is continuing. Their logo is still up on the Cyclones website, but Montreal has been replaced by Florida. |

My son in a prospect goalie camp in Buffalo, as is Smith, Dekanich and Pickard. From what he picked up from talking with them, the three of them are fighting for the backup spot in Nashville with the other two probably staying in Milwaukee. Guess there always potential the third one could spend some time in cincy... |

This is outstanding news!!!
The Montreal/Hamilton affiliation really ceased to exist once Weber left. Prior to Weber leaving, Guy Boucher (Hamilton's coach last year) took a job with the Tampa Bay Lightning and brought both of his assistant coaches with him. Then, right after Weber got his new job, Julien Brisbois-the Hamilton GM-left that organization to take an assitant GM position with Tampa.
At the end of the day, once the relationships which made that affiliation so productive for both organizations ceased to exist, so did the affiliation. An new agreement with Hamilton/Montreal would have been like starting an affiliation from scratch.
To have Weber continue his involvement with the Cyclones is quite the exceptional bonus. He cares about our organization, and probably has a personal relationship with our next coach. That is, of course, speculation on my part. We couldn't have hoped for a better scenario. We'll all probably start hating on Chuck the first time he calls up our two leading scorers and has them as health scratches in Rochester
It would be nice if the Nashville relationship continued, but that relationship has also been diminished with the departure of Santos from that organization. He was the Director of Hockey Operations for that team and worked closely with Weber, so that relationship-while not as gutted as the former Hamilton/Montreal one-would be essentially be a "rebuild".
While this news doesn't guarantee the Clones a Conference Finals appearance, it certainly removes a great deal of doubt regarding the state of their hockey operations. Affiliation is a major piece of the puzzle at our level and we couldn't be more fortunate than to have this Rochester/Florida affiliation in place. |

That's quite an accomplishment. Best of luck to him!! |

This has Chuck's fingerprints all over it! I knew that we wouldnt have heard the last of him as far as the Cyclones are concerned! I seriously hate to see the old guys go that helped us win the two Kelly Cups, but I trust that Chuck will send down the talent that will allow us to be Kelly Cup favorites for long stretches... the way we have it now and the way it should be around here |

Knowing Chuck, it wouldn't surprise me during the season if he doesn't funnel players into our lap the way he use to "find" players just when things looked the worst. Now for a spell he can actually stash players with us to use later or evaluate for the possible future. To Cyclone fans-we all can finally take a breath because a giant step forward has happened ! |

Check out mercyhurst roster and see what seniors put up good numbers :) Im sure he will continue the mercyhurst tradition for players to send to the ECHL |

Just like old times, an affliation with Florida. They had been good to us in the past as IHL team, but I hope they don't sign total garbage and send them here. |

I was kind of hoping to keep Hamilton and drop Milwaukee instead. Milwaukee's habit of calling players up and not even playing them is absurd.
I think Chuck will be good to us and not do crap like that.

That's funny...I was thinking the exact same thing. But then, who knows if we will for sure keep Milwaukee/Nashville. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

Don't forget Nashville also signed a European goaltender. |
