Okay folks, I got a chance to see Tuesday March 29th game between
Bakersfield and Las Vegas in Las Vegas. Wow what a difference in
"Western" hockey from what we see in the east. First off, I thought
I was watching a Cincinnati (Las Vegas) vs South Carolina (Bakersfield)
game MINUS the hitting !! Boy do they play clean in the west . I saw
players with the puck right against the glass with their heads down and
not even a clean soft hit was given to them. Las Vegas looked like us in
January- alot of skating and no one could shoot a puck anywhere but right
at the goalies chest or at the goalies leg when lying on the ice. Due to
Bakersfield's inept play, Las Vegas won 5-2. I got a real good laugh at
the attendance - 2909 !!! One section by the wall had 9 fans in it ! I would
guess no higher than 1500 including both teams and security !!! For our
fan's info $21 got me a middle section high seat (actually one below the
scorer's table at the top). My record is still intact- I've never seen a
loss in Las Vegas. When we play them in the finals this year
we will have to skip going out-we're a good luck charm. I was told before the
game they has lost like 5 in a row and no one expected them to win but here I
come to save the day ! The goalie of the week from last week, Brian Stewart
of Bakersfield would have made all our fans think they were watching Chet Pickard !
At times he looked totally lost and out of sync. Maybe he was watching some of the
fans in the stands because I was daydreaming myself over some of the girls out
there (it helps when it's 75 degrees outside) ! Maybe the best part of the trip
was missing Saturday night's game here in town.
Thank's everyone for letting me ramble on. The Orlean's arena would be my perfect
choice for an ECHL level arena. 7700 seats with a U - shaped seating . Great for
crowd involvement and great viewing.
