I thought that with the announcement that the CHL Champion Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs dying a rapid death yesterday, and the runner up Colorado Eagles bailing for the ECHL (aka the best AA league in hockey) I decided to look up who went where...
Colorado Eagles= ECHL Shreveport Mudbugs= Deceased Quad City Mallards= Deceased Mississippi Riverkings= Southern Pro Odessa Jackalopes (what a name)=Deceased (as a pro team that is)
This list joins three teams that were practically dead on arrival for 2010-11, the Amarillo Gorillas, Corpus Christi IceRays, and Muskegon Lumberjacks (aka Fury aka WHO CARES).
I would look for the CHL to only last one or two more years... if that... Dayton might be interested in jumping back to ECHL as the Gems, according to some pals on the know...

| I doubt the ECHL would view Dayton as a desireable expansion at this point. The Gems were near bottom of the CHL attendence and play at Hara Arena, which is sub par for CHL standards even. Ft Wayne jumping to the E would be a much better move for the league. |

| agreed... Fort Wayne gets great attendance and they have a lot of history and a lot of silverware... it would be a great asset for ECHL to have, and it would make a great renewal to the Komets-Cyclones wars of the IHL |

In the eleventh hour, the Mallards found new ownership and will return to the CHL for 2011-12.

Interesting part of the Mallard article: The Club 9 Sports website identifies "experience and representative sports, media and brand clients and assignments" with the NBA, the Arena Football League, the East Coast Hockey League and the Continental Basketball Association. It also cites a professional association with 11 specific professional sports teams, including the NHL Boston Bruins, the American Hockey League Manchester Monarchs, the ECHL Charlotte Checkers and the Southern Professional League Jacksonville Suns. Could be a one year test to organize the franchise at the CHL level before making a bid at the ECHL. |

Sort of like our roster at times- you need a scorecard to see who is playing or in what league a team is playing |

We have forgotten the mess in Bloomington. The Prairie Thunder lost the lease on their areana due to not renewing it on time. The owners of the PT also have the IRS on their tails. Remeber the PT were memebers of the IHL. The CHL swoops in immediately placing a CHL franchise in Bloomington with new owners, and lease to the arena. So now we have Bloomington Prairie Thunder = folded Bloomington CHL= expansion. |
