NHL teams have made their first cuts and assignments to AHL. Nashville had five goalies in camp and sent Chet and Engren to Milwaukee today leaving Jeremy in their camp. He will therefore be the #1 in Milwaukee ( kudos to him) and either of the other two will be sent here. Lets hope it will be Engren who they might want to send down to get the extra work.
Florida had Clemensen undergo knee surgery this weekend with his recovery being 1-2 months. The leaves the back up to Jose Theodore to either Markstrom or Plante. Unless Florida makes a trade for another veteran, we end up one step down on the depth chart. Was hoping both Markstrom and Plante would go to SA and Foster would come here, but he may now stay in SA. Next down the chart I believe is a 6'5" 225 goalie from Russia!!! and a 19 year old Canadien who will probably go back to Juniors. Best of both worlds would be Engren and Foster. The two alternatives scare me.
The AHL 10 day camps start today and tomorrow so we could begin to see players coming down this weekend. Lets hope we get some real prospects among them. |

Let's not bash Chet from the get go. He's a 1st round pick for an organization that scouts and develops solid goaltenders (every rule has an exception, see Kyle Gajewski). Did he have a terrible year last season? Yes, but all reports are that he's worked his but off this off season and has the mindset of earning his spot, even if that means starting at the bottom.
The ECHL is developmental and guys will have their struggles. During the 06-07 season Cedrick was the stronger netminder while Dov seemingly struggled mentally after being reassigned after being called up. The following year the fans gasped every time Dov started, but if you look at the record is was Dov that carried the Cyclones for the first have of the season while Ceddy struggled. If you don't believe me go look at the score sheets.
Goalies, especially young ones, are always an adventure. They can very easily go from hero to goat and back. I'm not worried about the goaltending personally, I highly doubt we'll ever get saddled with the likes of Lacasse and Gajewski again. I'm not concerned with the D and play in front of the goalie. If transition gives up odd man rushes from the onset then I don't care who's in net cause he's going to get shelled. Good team D and smart decisions with the puck can make an average goalie look stellar; Cody Rudkowski for example, or look at Max Daigneault's number in 08-09. Just the same a game plan that breeds turnovers and odd man rushes can make a great goalie look like a beer leaguer.

| ALWAYS great to hear from Elvis...you've been silent to long as players have been signed. I am interested in hearing your take on what they have so far. Overall, I don't think people seem to enamored with them. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

Playing goalie is 95% mental once you get above th high juniors level, and Chet has been in a rut for 18 months so I hope for his (and our) sake that he's able to get back in a good spot.
And don't be too quick to dismiss the young tall Russian... |

I agree with on the Russian kid. I recall a guy by the name of Gerald Coleman that gave even the good Cyclones squads fits because he just so damn big.
Fangers also kind of drives home my point about Chet's mental state. If as reported Chet has a positive mindset it's not going to do him any good to come here and get ridden from the onset. Be skeptical, sure, but do it in a positive manner.

I'm ready to try to start with a clean slate with Chet, but you have to be realistic. It's gonna be hard given that the last time we saw him he looked like he'd struggle to stop a beach ball.
If we get him he really really needs a good start to get the fans behind him. If he starts slow and lets some softies in, the natural reaction is going to be "crap, not again." I am rooting for him though. Nashville tends to draft well and they saw something in him. Hopefully he finds his game.
As for the D hanging the goalies out to dry... I agree. Last year was kind of a mess and it was kind of a mess with guys we'd seen not be a mess before. So hopefully the coaches have stepped up and that situation has been demessified.
I really really don't want to sit and watch what I watched last year. Yeah, I was spoiled by 3 years of really good hockey, but there was a whole lot of really bad hockey last season. I just don't enjoy watching 2.5 hours of really bad hockey. I'd rather stay home and watch TV.

San Antonio Rampage General Manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed goaltender Manny Legace a professional try-out (PTO). In addition, the Florida Panthers have assigned goaltender Tyler Plante to the Rampage.
Legace, 38, has appeared in 367 career National Hockey League (NHL) games posting a 187-100-42 record with a 2.49 goals against average and a .911 save percentage over the course of 11 seasons split between Los Angeles (1998-99), Detroit (1999-06), St. Louis (2006-09) and Carolina (2009-10 |

| @dbc With Clemeson on the shelf after surgery, I'm taking a guess that Chuck didn't like the looks of what he was working with after Cheverie got traded. Regardless, if Manny makes the team it adds depth to their system which can only help us. |

Don't know all the rules but it could be that FL is looking at Manny hopefully being the NHL back-up replacing Clemensen but didn't want to sign him to a NHL contract until they were sure he was in condition and could still play at 38. I don't think the NHL has PTO contracts so an AHL PTO would let him get in shape in SA and see what he can do. From his standpoint I doubt he would come out of retirement for just an AHL deal. In either event I agree it puts us in a stronger position of getting Foster back. We should know in a few days.
Oooops, just saw that Brian had a 30 save shutout last night for SA. We will see |

| I'm betting if we manage to start the season with Foster he won't be here very long. |
