CYCLONES WEEKLY RELEASE December 12-18, 2011
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Saturday Night vs. Toledo: Mathieu Aubin extended his point-scoring streak to five games with a goal and an assist while Joe Devin picked up the game-winning tally as the Cyclones defeated the Walleye by a 3-2 final score in front of 7,723 at U.S. Bank Arena.
About Friday Night in Toledo: Cyclones rookie Garrett Wilson broke a 3-3 tie with a power play goal 13:01 into the third period as the Cyclones rallied to defeat the Walleye by a 4-3 final score in front of 5,063 at Huntington Center. The win, which was the Cyclones third come-from-behind, was also Jarrod Skalde’s 100th professional victory.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
North Division Navigation: This week the Cyclones will have an opportunity to climb further up the division ladder as they’ll face both the Kalamazoo Wings and Chicago Express beginning tomorrow night at U.S. Bank Arena. Coming into the week, Jarrod Skalde’s team has five games in hand on both opponents but trail the first place Wings by 11 points. Against their three division foes (Kalamazoo, Chicago, and Toledo) this season, the Cyclones have compiled a 4-6-2 record while outshooting them by an average of 31-27 per game.
Record Setting Start: On Saturday night, the Cyclones remained undefeated in regulation play at U.S. Bank Arena this season with the 3-2 win over Toledo. Their eight-game home point streak is the second-longest active streak in the ECHL and represents the best home start for the Cyclones in franchise history.
Wocka, Wocka, Wocka: When Mathieu Aubin scored the first goal on Saturday against Toledo, Cyclones fans tossed a record number of new and gently-loved stuffed animals onto the ice - which were then collected and donated to the Cincinnati Police Department. In the sixth-annual event, Cincinnati faithful sent 1,139 teddy's onto the frozen floor U.S. Bank Arena - an increase of more than 200 bears from last year.
Nice, Not Naughty: Jarrod Skalde’s bunch continues to rank among the league’s least-penalized teams. Coming into tonight, Cincinnati has the third-lowest PIM average in the league (13.72 per game) and has the fewest overall penalty minutes (247) among all 20 ECHL clubs.
Coors Light Jarrod Skalde Show TONIGHT: Join Head Coach Jarrod Skalde and Voice of the Cyclones Nick Brunker at Gameworks in Newport on the Levee every Monday from 7-8pm! They will chat about all-things-Cyclones and take questions from fans. Admission is FREE and fans can enjoy inexpensive food and drink specials from Gameworks' extensive menu. Tonight, forwards Angelo Esposito and Jonathan Hazen will be on hand as well to sign autographs and meet fans!
