01/04/2012 Brad Fogal (G) Cincinnati Added

01/04/2012 Joel Champagne (C) Cincinnati ADD Reassigned by Milwaukee Admirals from Milwaukee Admirals

01/04/2012 Nick Brunker (G) Cincinnati Added

01/04/2012 Rob Schriner (F) Cincinnati Added

Fogal's college numbers are stellar, however they are from Adrian College in something called the MCHA, so I'd take them with a grain of salt. Also, Schriner played at OSU... in the late 80's and early 90's! He's almost 43 and hasn't played professionally since '99 (per hockeydb.com).

Read this as Fogal being #1 tonight and Nick being the EBUG. Fogal released yesterday for the second time this year by the Quad City Mallards of the CHL. Schriner is a week short of being 43 -yes 43- and out of minor league hockey since 1999. He is the Ass't GM of the Chiller Ice Rinks in Columbus and an instructor at the Blue jackets junior hockey camps. Wow

In a word, ... "WOW"!

I feel like I'm in a bad ECHL version of "REALLY?!?!? with Seth and Amy" from SNL!

A 34 year old forward (Martin Spanhel) who just sniffed Nationwide area 10 years ago then flopped around Europe a few years will be on the ice rather than 30 year old veteran Scott Reynolds who is local and is still actively playing D1 here in Cincinnati? Really?

A 43 year old hockey rink manager who last played in the "E" over 12 years ago will give the team a better option than a 30 year old veteran captain of two Kelly Cup teams who played at a high level last season and is also still locally playing D1 to stay in shape? Really?

A PR guy/broadcaster who played some goalie as a kid is a better EBUG option than a 30 something local Jr A assistant coach who played at some of the highest levels of amateur hockey as an adult in England? REALLY?

I REALLY hate beating a dead horse, but this makes me wonder what goes on behind that scenes so that quality local talent isn't an option to put on the ice anymore and we need to enlist the help of an archaeologist to help fill/dig up a roster. Really?

If you look at the resume's of our coaching staff, they have the more recent high level experience than any of these guys they just signed. Why can't they lace up the skates, pull a Reggie Dunlop, and show the fans how hard they're willing to work to win? Really!

Beg pardon if some of my facts or dates are off the mark a little. I get that we need bodies on the bench, but given some of the alternatives available, I just don't get THESE signings. I realize this is "AA" hockey but these signings start to make things look more "Beer League".

REALLY?!?!?!?

Adrian is a relatively new DIII hockey program, tho rising quickly as a national contender - they lost in the DIII national champioship game last year. That said, they play in one of the weaker DIII leagues, so regular season stats can be misleading.

Maybe the fellas you just named wanted season contracts. The guys they signed might just be for today with help coming for weekend?

There are other factors involved too such as the ECHL veteran rules that keep former fan favorites skating in the local men's leagues.

Vet status doesn't fit into this conversation.

Rob Schriner has played 290 games (in US/Canada) and would be a vet

Martin Spanhel has played 194 games (in US/Canada). Depending on which European leagues count, he is probably over the 260 game threshold for being a vet.

I think Cyclonesdiehard hit the nail on the head with the contract issue.
