CYCLONES WEEKLY RELEASE
January 30-February 5, 2012

THIS PAST WEEK:

About Sunday Afternoon in Chicago: The Express erased a two-goal deficit and rallied to beat the Cyclones in a shootout by a 3-2 final score in front of 2,131 at Sears Centre. Mike Pelech and Matt Sisca both scored goals for Cincinnati in a losing effort.

About Saturday Night in Chicago: Behind a pair of power play goals and a 24-save performance by Peter Mannino, the Express blanked the Cyclones by a 3-0 final score in front of 3,771 at Sears Centre. It was the first time this season that the Cyclones had been shutout and also snapped Cincinnati’s three-game winning streak.

About Friday Night in Kalamazoo: Taylor Aronson’s power play goal at the 2:34 mark of overtime sealed a wild 3-2 victory for the Cyclones over the Wings in front of 3,572 at Wings Stadium. It was the second straight overtime win and pulled the Cyclones into a second-place tie with Chicago in the North Division standings.

About Wednesday Night in Chicago: Mike Pelech buried the game-winning goal at the 3:41 mark of overtime to give the Cyclones a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Express in front of 1,237 at Sears Centre. It was the seventh time this season that the Cyclones had rallied to win and the second time this month they erased a two-goal deficit to earn a victory.

SHOTS FROM THE POINT:

Home Sweet Home: The Cyclones kick off a five-game homestand this week as they welcome the Toledo Walleye and the South Carolina Stingrays to U.S. Bank Arena. On Wednesday, the Clones open the month of February with a battle against the Walleye in hopes of adding some breathing room in the North Division standings. Then on Friday and Saturday night, the Stingrays invade 100 Broadway for the first and only time in the 2011-12 season. This year against the South Division, Cincinnati has amassed a 2-0-1 record.

No Need for Nail Clippers: The Cyclones have found themselves in closely-contested battles all season long. Nearly 66 percent of their games have been decided by two-goals or less, including eight of their last ten games. In such situations this year, the Clones are 10-9-0-6.

Feeling the February Love Over the years, the Cyclones have been extremely successful in the month of February. Over the past there seasons, the Cyclones have compiled a 22-12-4 record in "Cupid's Month." Their best February record ever came in 2009-10 when they went a staggering 9-2-2. This February, Cincinnati will play 17 games in 29 days - their busiest one ever.
