CINCINNATI, Ohio – Jonathan Parker scored twice while Goaltender Ryan Zapolski turned aside all 21 shots he faced as the Gwinnett Gladiators (30-14-7-4) shutout the Cincinnati Cyclones (24-19-1-7) by a 2-0 final score in front of 2,310 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
Gwinnett rookie Jonathan Parker opened the scoring at 11:16 as he sent a high wrist shot over the right shoulder of Cyclones goalie Brian Foster (W, 26 saves, 10-4-0-1) to make it 1-0 Gladiators at the first intermission.
The Gladiators extended their lead to 2-0 at 11:27 of the middle stanza as Parker sniped his second goal of the night over Foster. And despite having a trio of power plays in the second period, the Cyclones trailed by two after 40 minutes.
The Cyclones had their best scoring chances in the third period, sending 11 shots on Gladiators goaltender Ryan Zapolski (W, 21 saves, 4-1-0-1). However, the rookie backstop kept Cincinnati off the scoreboard to preserve his first professional shutout. It was just the second time this season that Cincinnati was blanked by an opponent.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:
First Star: Ryan Zapolski (First-career shutout, 21 saves) Second Star: Jonathan Parker (2 goals for Gwinnett) Third Star: Brian Foster (26 saves for Cincinnati)
The Cyclones will be back on the ice at U.S. Bank Arena this Friday when they play host to the Florida Everblades at 7:30pm. It will be King of Pop Night featuring a specially themed bobblehead given to the first 2,500 fans through the gates in addition to $1 pop! Secure your seats now by calling 513.421.PUCK or log on to CyclonesHockey.com. Fans can also get the latest team updates throughout the season on Facebook and Twitter (@CincyCyclones).

Saying the Cyclones "played" last night is stretching the facts. Although Foster did and the defense sometimes, the offense should be good and rested for this weekend. Same old problem. Puck is in play in front of their goal and where are the defensemen- halfway down the ice in the OTHER direction. We played the third period like we were ahead 2-0, not down 2-0 ! |

| Gwinnett did a great job of shutting down shooting lanes. The Cyclones were constantly forced to shoot wide and hope for a rebound. They couldn't solve that, nor a hot goaltender. And 10 shots on goal after 30 minutes of play won't get it done. |

In case anyone didn't notice, the cyclones dressed 14 players including 3 beer league forwards.
That the game was competitive at all vs. the top team in the Conference was a moral victory.
The Cyclones injury situation is brutal. Aubin, Hazen, Leaderer, Liambas, Reed, and Suter are out. That is 40% of the roster.
Vaive is on call up and Slaney just got traded. With these 2 included, that makes 50% of those who ideally would have been in the line up now gone.
Scotty Bowman couldn't win with this roster. Only the great Chuck Weber could bring home a winner now. |

And now Lucciani is called up. That is now five forwards and four defensemen absent for one reason or another who would be playing if they were available.
With three games this weekend they really need help. With both K-Zoo and Clones playing Saturday night here and each having games Friday night and Sunday afternoon, could be that the Saturday night game goalies will be Fogel and Chet. Wouldn't that be ironic |

Let's be fair. If Chet had been a little bit better at opening and closing the door, we would have won.
