CINCINNATI, Ohio – Mike Pelech’s second period goal turned out to be the game-winner as the Cincinnati Cyclones (25-19-1-7) held on for a 2-1 win over the Florida Everblades (26-22-2-4) in front of 5,328 at U.S. Bank Arena on Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, Florida’s Mathieu Roy made it 1-0 when he slid a shot underneath Cincinnati net minder Brian Foster (W, 23 saves, 11-4-0-1) at 2:49. However, the Cyclones answered back at 11:32 when Matt Sisca broke away with a puck at center ice and buried his 17th of the season over the blocker of Everblades goalie Pat Nagle (L, 30 saves, 17-13-3), knotting things at one. Then, with under a minute to play in the middle frame, Mike Pelech slammed in a rebound right along the goal line for a 2-1 Cyclones lead at the second intermission.
In the third period, both teams had ample chances to light the lamp but the goaltenders stayed perfect. The Everblades pulled Nagle in the final minutes to attempt a late comeback, but it was thwarted by more solid Cyclones defense as they preserved a 2-1 win.
The Cyclones Radio Network Stars of the Game are as follows:
First Star: Mike Pelech (Game-winning goal for Cincinnati) Second Star: Matt Sisca (Goal for Cincinnati) Third Star: Brian Foster (Winning goaltender, 23 saves)

Great effort by an undermanned and undersized team. It is a real treat watching Foster move so smoothly and easily side to side and in and out while staying square to the puck.
Isn't there a league minimum on the height and weight of players though? I give these new guys from the SPHL and FHL credit though for tough wall play all night. Until about thirty years ago many east coast colleges had 150Lb football teams in addition to their regular teams and it looked like the Clones of last night had half their lineup that could have played for one of them.
Claremont played for K-Zoo last night and blew a 3-0 lead to lose to Chicago 4-3. Sets up a possible Chet vs. Fogel match tonight. Hate to miss it. |

44 Darek Ste. Marie
Who is the wild man in the #44 jersey The energy Darek Ste. Marie brought to the ice was fun to watch. When Hazen is healthy, I would love to see Hazen,Sisca and Ste. Marie on the ice together on a power play. Turn them loose and let them attack the net. The second goal is something I been asking for all year. Bring the player from behind the net along the opposite side of the net. You pass across the front and he dumps it in before the goalie can slide over. You also notice he went top shelf so the pad or goalie stick was not a factor. You see that move every day on Sportcenter for the NHL highlights. |

Go figure, the Cyclones find themselves with a short bench, lacking a bunch of "AHL" players and they win. I kind of reminds me of the win streak they put together in December in which they lacked the "talent" they had had in the weeks prior.
Effort and teamwork goes a long way towards winning games. |

Agree 100% Elvis and yes we did get pushed around last night but the focus stayed on winning the game. If Mike had been healthy, a couple of Florida team players were in line for an "attitude" adjustment. Question would have been could he keep it under control and also, would our retaliation have woke them up. Great team defense last night and great goalie work. |

Effort is rarely a problem with this team. The credit for 2 out of 3 wins with a retired player, 3 federal leaguers and a CHL cut or two goes to a very sound defense first system. Skalde credit. Foster has been a backbone to all of this. Without him probably 0-3. Foster credit.
