CYCLONES WEEKLY RELEASE February 27-March 4, 2012
THIS PAST WEEK:
About Sunday Afternoon in Toledo: The Cyclones nearly orchestrated another remarkable comeback but ultimately fell to the Walleye by a 5-4 final score in front of 7,503 at Huntington Center on Sunday afternoon.
About Saturday Night vs. Kalamazoo: The Cyclones rattled off four unanswered goals in the final two periods to defeat the Wings in come-from-behind fashion by a 5-3 final score in front of 5,935 at U.S. Bank Arena. It was the fourth largest crowd to watch a game at 100 Broadway this season.
About Friday Night vs. Florida: Mike Pelech’s second period goal turned out to be the game-winner as the Cyclones held on for a 2-1 win over the Everblades in front of 5,328 at U.S. Bank Arena. It was Cincinnati’s 13th come-from-behind victory of the season, two shy of their total from last season.
About Last Week vs. Gwinnett: On Monday, Dan Eves’ second goal of the night broke a 2-2 tied in the third period as the Cyclones held on to defeat the Gladiators by a 3-2 final score in front of 2,016 at U.S. Bank Arena. Then, on Wednesday, Jonathan Parker scored twice while Goaltender Ryan Zapolski turned aside all 21 shots he faced as the Gladiators shutout the Cyclones by a 2-0 final score.
SHOTS FROM THE POINT:
One More Push Before the Road: The Cyclones will have one more homestand this week before embarking on their longest road sojourn of the season beginning this Sunday. They’ll kick off their four-game week on Tuesday night vs. Greenville before hosting Chicago and Wheeling on Thursday and Saturday respectively. Then, on Sunday, the Clones will visit Toledo for the final time in 2011-12. Cincinnati has 18 games remaining in the regular season, with only seven of them at home.
Eastern Conference Playoff Race: With the final five weeks of the regular season underway, here is how the playoff race shapes up. The top eight teams at season's end from the Eastern Conference earn Kelly Cup Playoff bids. Division winners earn the top three seeds.
