CINCINNATI, Ohio – Matt Sisca and Anthony Luciani each had three point games as the Cincinnati Cyclones (31-26-2-7) cruised past the Chicago Express (29-26-7-4) by a 4-1 final score in front of 2,528 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night. The win gave the Cyclones sole possession of the eight seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race, passing Chicago and the idle Reading Royals.
The Cyclones cashed in on a power play to take an early 1-0 lead, as Matt Carter sent a glove-high wrist shot over the left shoulder of Chicago net minder Rob Madore (L, 20 saves, 3-3-0) at 14:26. Thanks to a strong Cincinnati penalty kill and seven opening period saves from Brian Foster (W, 20 saves, 13-9-1-1), the Cyclones led 1-0 through 20 minutes.
In the middle frame, the Cyclones man-advantage unit produced more offense as Matt Sisca took a feed in the slot from Anthony Luciani and blasted a shot over Madore and into the net at 16:31. At the second intermission, Cincinnati held a two-goal edge.
Midway through the third period, the Cyclones took a commanding 3-0 lead when Luciani finished off a beautiful feed from Sisca in the slot at the 13:29 mark. Unfortunately, Foster’s shutout bid was denied just over a minute later when Jonathan Zion carved through the Cincinnati zone and lit the lamp with a shoulder-high wrist shot, making it a 3-1 game. But the Cyclones would respond in kind; just 22 seconds later, Dan Eves careened a puck from behind net off of Madore’s left pad and into the cage for a 4-1 Cyclones cushion. They held on to win by the same score.
The victory for Cincinnati gives them sole possession of the eighth and final playoff spot at night’s end, with 71 points on the 2011-12 season.

4-1 sounds like an impressive win but reality was bad (us) against horrible (them) ! 1st period score was 1-0 Cyclones. Easily could have been 4-3 Chicago. We hit two solid pipes and they missed at least 4 open nets. Foster was plain scary in the 1st. Very erratic movement side to side and poor positioning but luckily he really must have eaten his "Lucky Charms" because getting out of the first with a shutout was unbelievable. Great to see power play goals. Luciani really played hard but needs to be careful on how bold he plays. Playing alot like JM Doust. Dishing out the hits but needs to remember we need him playing and not hurt. |

I don't know Bags. I thought they seemed to be hustling pretty good and the passing looked pretty sharp. They didn't seem to be out of position much and Foster did what he had to. I think if they played more games like that they would be in a good position.
Now two of the next three are on the road where they can't win. I would take last nights play at Wheeling and K-Zoo. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

I thought they played pretty well against a fast Chicago team too. A lot of crisp passing, lots of hustle and intensity.
I hate Chicago a lot less now that they've gotten rid of their goons. For me, a much more entertaining game. That 4th goal was a real trip! I thought it was an "own" goal, not a deflection off of the goalie. |

It was an own Goal. Faubert (I think that's his name) looked like he tried to get his foot out of the way, and ended up kicking it in his own net.
We sit in 119, so we had the close up view of the humility cam. |

Clutch win. Artistry is unimportant when a playoff berth is at stake.
A win tonight against Wheeling is vital. It's very hard to see a win at Kzoo on Sunday happening. The Clones are 0-3-4 on Sunday road games which are the third of three in three days. Perhaps they are due to win one of those as all 4 losses have been in SO. |
