Cedrick Desjardins attempt to sign an NHL contract for the 2012-13 season has ended in a contract dispute. He wanted an NHL contract but no team was willing to offer one.
So, the now-journeyman netminder has inked an AHL deal with the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Desjardins has become what he was projected to be: a career minor leaguer. |

Donnie, we already went through this with you. Ceddy played in the NHL and so did Desharnais. Both players you said would never play in the NHL.
Stop with it already. Last time I checked you have never played AHL or NHL hockey. Actually, nobody is playing in the NHL now so your entire topic makes absolutely no sense. |

Randy, Desjardins played a couple games in the NHL out of necessity when Tampa Bay's goalies were both unable to play due to injury. Did he play in the NHL when nobody was hurt? No. So when I said he wouldn't play in the NHL he didn't when necessity didn't warrant it.
In case you missed it - and judging by your post you did - NHL teams signed players to contracts all summer. So, with Desjardins not getting an offer over the summer, my post does make sense.
In regards to Desharnais, I was not the only one that didn't think he'd play in the NHL. There were 30 NHL teams that didn't think so either when they passed on the opportunity to draft him or sign him as a non-drafted free agent after a stellar junior career in the QMJHL. And, there were still 30 NHL teams that didn't think he could play when they passed on signing him after he collected more than 100 points in the ECHL with the Cyclones. He was playing on an AHL contract in Hamilton when Montreal signed him. You and other Cyclones fans always seem to overlook the fact that nobody else thought he could play in the NHL either when I made the statement I didn't think he'd play there. Desharnais wasn't the first and he won't be the last player to prove a lot of people wrong. |

It doesn't matter. He played in the NHL. Done.

I didn't miss it and it still doesn't matter.

That is fine that other people didn't think that, but I'm sure they don't visit ECHL fan made websites and tell current player fans that he will never play in the NHL. You need to basically stop being a jerk online and just chill out on the things you say. Your statements are not facts, they are opinions. Instead of creating a post stating "Ceddy will never be a NHL regular", maybe you should just not post at all. If your reply to a topic about it, actually use discretion and say "In my opinion I don't feel he is a NHL regular". See the difference? Being a jerk online verses actually giving a opinion.
I am the biggest anti-Cincinnati Bengals fan in the planet but you don't see me going onto a Cincinnati Bengals fan website and creating topics telling them their players don't deserve to be professional athletes because they do drugs and go to jail every year. Just please use discretion when posting here. |

I will post what I want, Randy. If you don't like what I post because it doesn't put a past or present Cyclones player up on a pedestal, then so be it. You have to learn how to deal with it when someone says something that goes against the way you feel.

I don't think anyone here is putting any players on any pedestal. I just think all of us support them because they were apart of the team we watched.
I can deal with what you say but that doesn't mean what you say isn't rude. Why be rude and ruin the message board for other people when you can be polite (while displaying your opinion) and enjoy it? |

Actually Donnie he was signed by the Montreal Canadiens on July 1 2012 to a one year two way contract. They have to sign AHL contracts with Hamilton because of the lock out. |

| Talked with one AHL GM guy I know and he said that Ceddy was generally regarded as a potential 2 or 3 with the NHL but that, aside from the lockout, teams would be reluctant at that this time to sign him to a two way contract because of concerns over injuries the last two years and his durability. He needs to show he is fully recovered and hasn't lost anything. He thought Hamilton was a good opportunity for him as Montreal really doesn't have a real #3 and he will get a chance to play and show what he has. His other comment was that he wished every goalie had Ceddy's work habits. |

If he had signed a "one-way" NHL contract, could he then be sent to the AHL if the strike was still on ? If not, the two way contract opens the door for AHL play and he will be ready once the NHL starts playing.

Only players that would have had to clear waivers to go to the AHL need to sign AHL contracts during the lockout. The Ducks had a similar situation in 2004-05 when Kurtis Foster had to sign an AHL deal. |

There are a lot of goalies with better ability than Desjardins that didn't play as many years in pro hockey as he has because they didn't have his work habits. |

| Ceds has been out for the beginning of the season at Hamilton due to another injury--this time a groin. Hopefully will be back this week or next. Clearly pencilled in as number one there. Robert Mayer is currently filling in with Delmas as his backup. Peter Budaj is currently number 2 at Montreal behind Carey Price. End of the NHL lockout could have Ceds and Budaj swap for a while to allow Budaj to get in some work. |

Budaj is a solid NHL goaltender, Desjardins a career minor leaguer. He's a depth guy for the Canadiens and would only be called up in the event Price or Budaj were injured and could not play.
