This just in:

CONTRACTED PLAYERS RELEASED (eligible for waivers/waiver claims):

Cincinnati:

I guess we won't be seeing Weapon X after all.

I'd like to know who is supposed to be the muscle on the team now. Liambas isnt going to be doing that role this year, and nobody else on the team has ever really had a big PIM season. Shall be interesting.

We didn't need muscle when we dominated in 07-08?

True, but we dont have that caliber roster either. Maybe the goaltending duo can match - but its not likely we will see another Desharnais caliber player.

It would just be nice to have one big guy to keep the other team honest.

We have plenty of big guys. This is the biggest group of players that has been through the organization since they returned in 2006. While I was hoping for Penner to get his chance (he was great in front of the net during training camp) he was odd man out. He's a decent enough ECHL level skater but Saturday's game was not typical ECHL pace and Penner would not have been able to keep up; it would have been similar to Jame DeLory.

Moreover, Hotham 6'2" 205 is more than capable of mixing it up and Nathan Moon 5'11" 190 has a grit to his game that I'm not sure we've seen before; not only does he get under the opposition skin (think Chris Moorehouse) but he has the skill to play a regular shift and contribute.

Info on Penner:

"Then the Rush made a surprising move by adding tough guy today in Alex Penner. Many of you may remember the 6'4", 240 lb. Penner from his time with the Colorado Eagles. He will bring even more toughness to a team that already features 6'5", 215 lb. Garrett Gruenke and 6'6", 240 lb. Justin Sawyer."

His ECHL rights were also claimed by Stockton today.
