Well, great. Now the question is who are we going to lose, even on a temporary basis to training camps? My guesses:
Josh Shalla, gone to AHL Garrett Wilson, gone to AHL Brian Foster, gone to AHL John McFarland, gone to AHL Anthony Bitetto, gone to AHL David MacDonald, AHL replacement, may be back David Pecan, AHL replacement, may be back Brian O'Hanley, AHL replacement, may be back Taylor Ellington, AHL replacement, may be back Mike Embach, AHL replacement, may be back
I'm not trying to be gloom and doom here but with dual affiliations and players that outperform in this league (not last night, unfortunately) we are going to take this on the chin.

| As I said a couple of months ago, two affiliates is an awesome thing to have during a lockout and a terrible thing to have when the lockout is over. |

We won't know anything until we see how things shake out. Who we lose will be determined by who the AHL teams lose. Brunker seems to think it won't be as bad as initially expected. Personally, I think there will be roster movement but it's still really hard to say how much. Josh Shalla is already on his way to MKE and I figure McFarland to be on the short list. Beyond that we'll just have to wait and see. The one thing that I think it is safe to say is the guys that are up now (Cam Reid, Jonathan Hazen) won't be back until late in the season if at all.
Luckily, Orlando still owes us futures for the Sisca and Liambas trades. |

| I was really hoping they would just cancel the entire season. It's a shame the highest level of the greatest game is run and played by so many total a-holes. I'm probably not alone when I say I'm just not excited at all for the NHL this year. Time to cancel my Gamecenter live subscription before they start charging me! |

Okay if we are going to be picky about things, I guess I should have called this topic "lockout possibly over". Sorry, some of us aren't perfect ! |

I'm guessing Shalla, McFarland, and Wilson are gone at a minimum. Most importantly the chances of Foster staying are minimal, and the other two guys have been pretty uninspiring in the majority of their starts.
If we go from division leader to scratching to make the playoffs in a very short period don't be surprised. Skalde has had the benefit of some extra talent to make him look pretty good so far this season. How the team looks from here on out will be the true measure.

| Where is Foster going to go? It doesn't look like either of the San Antonio goalies will move up. |

Markstromm played a few games with the panthers last year, and with Clemmenson and Theodore both being older maybe they want him to be a full time backup in the show to see if he can be a starter. I would expect Foster to move to the AHL assuming Markstromm goes to the NHL. At the very least for a week during training camp he would be gone.
Tyson Strachan will probably be going back to the NHL too, so SA will have to pull a D prospect from us to replace him. Maybe pull us O'Hanley for a couple games. As good as McFarland has been - I'd imagine he is the next call up when a forward is needed. No forwards for SA are NHL guys, but maybe they use someone young and performing well like Drew Shore - which would probably mean McFarland is gone.
Nashville is another story. The Ads currently have 2 Dmen (Blum and Ellis) who will be back in the NHL, and Bourque up front. At a minimum they will be calling 3 people up. Only other person who gets NHL time is Chris Mueller so maybe 4. With that movement they will probably sign Cam Reid to a SPC. Shalla will probably stay, so theres 2 forwards. I believe the only defensemen we have from Nashville/MKE are Bitetto and Aronson so they would be gone. Short of them signing someone like Chris Reed - or anybody else for that matter. Since coming back from his injury last year he is a force on the team.
I dont think we will be losing alot of players, but Shalla and McFarland are by far the two most dominant offensive players we have. That will really hurt. Houser has made alot of quality saves, but keep in mind he is only 20. He will get better and more consistent.
Luckily we have 3 future considerations from Orlando, so after all of this is said and done, hopefully we can pluck a couple solid players there before the college free agent crop comes up. |

I would not be so quick on Foster-FLA and SA already have two goaltenders unless they want him to sit, again injuries another story, Wilson has been playing good he may be up and down, McFarland will be gone, he is a 2nd round pick and has put up great numbers, Shalla yea I agree, he has done great in his Rookie year Bitetto I think will be up and down. Now the PTO I agree with Embach, Ellington, O'Hanley will get recalled for sure to SA who has his contract. All in all at least they have played the 5 game minumum for the playoffs!!!! |

Thanks for reminding me of your last point BP. Milwaukee is 9th and SA 13 in the 15 team conference where only 8 make the playoffs. Hope that continues and we get lots of guys back.
Also agree that Foster going up is iffy. Markstrom hasn't played too well this year and the new NHL season will have much more frequent games each week than usual meaning teams will use their back up more than usual. If Celmmonson and Theodore are healthy they will probably stay with them rather than bring in a young guy for this season. |

The most difficult thing will be getting through the next 2 weeks. NHL teams start training camp on Saturday and we really won't know what's going on for sure until then. I'm seeing beat reporters on twitter specualting most teams bringing in 25 or 26 guys into camp. The NHL limits rosters to 23 active players so a lot depends on injuries and the salary cap.
It's being reported that Andrei Kostitsyn, Alexei Kovalev and Marek Svatos have been invited to Florida's training camp so it's not a forgone conclusion that San Antonio will lose forwards which would then cause us to lose McFarland or Wilson. It's just way to early to tell.
While things may not be too bad on the FLA/SAN side. There's a good chance that NSH.MKE leave us high and dry. I know they have injured defensemen and some banged up forwards. Factor in the Preds having 2 dmen (Ryan Ellis and Jon Blum) and 1 forward (Gabriel Bourque) playing in MKE (Former Cyclone Chris Mueller also got an extrended look in NSH last season) and it's safe to say that Tyler Aronson might get a call to the Ads leaving us with just Zoltan Hetenyi until the rosters get sorted out and people get healthy.
Also, it's still being worked out how the transition will go between AHL to NHL. When the League locked the players out back in September there was an agreement in place which allowed teams to assign players to the AHL without clearing waivers as long as the met certain criteria. This process needs to be sorted out before any call-ups occur.
There's also the the question of NHL ready players in Juniors. How do they fit in to the mix?
The bottom line is that it's just to early to tell. Could it be catastrophic to the roster? That is a possibility. On the flipside there could be minimum change. Until the NHL rosters get sorted out we can't speculate anything at our level. All we can say is that the next 2 weeks will be tough given that there will be some call-ups from AHL to NHL and therefore from ECHL to AHL which could leave us thin. Once the NHL makes cuts players should trickle back through the system.
Personally I would like to see some SPHL or FHL guys get a try-out in the next 2 weeks. It's better than playing with a short bench and if it is a worst case scenario, we'll have guys with the club already. |

Well, already went that route. Tommy Lange added per today's ECHL transactions report. Been playing in the SPHL this year, but has plenty of ECHL experience. |

Thing is, I'm willing to bet some of the players that got nice contracts in Europe and Russia won't be back this year, which will pull up guys from the A. And the only way we keep Foster is if all 4 goalies in front of him stay healthy and play well, and that bet isn't a good one.
The upside is that most of the ECHL will have the same sort of issues, so the competition should stay decently balanced.
I'm not sure why, but the last couple of games I've seen were pretty uninspired, especially Saturday night. Maybe a roster shakeup will be a good thing.
