What in the wide, wide world of sports is goin' on around here? Suddenly, the Cyclone lead is just two, with Toledo owning a game in hand.
Thursday they were outplayed across the board. Vitucci teams always play the Cyclone well. Friday night it sounded like they made some bonehead plays that cost them (smooth move, Conboy). And I have no idea what caused last night's collapse. Did anyone happen to see that one?
Now, they're faced with having to pick up points down in Dixie and that will be no small task. |

| 4-4-1-1 P10, by my standered that's a losing record. It's called the Jarrod Skalde slide. We will be in third place before we know it, and maybe fighting for the final playoff spot yet again. SAD, so very sad :-( |

| lol I so called this in my earlier thread. We are now seeing the team under coaching strength and not upper league strength; And as mentioned in my other thread, prepare to fight for 8th place. |

| No goalie is going to stay sharp playing once a week. No games this week until two down south this weekend. Two months left. Time to pick a number one and number 2 and play them accordingly. |

Yep, now we're seeing where we would have been for most of the season without the benefit of two affiliates and a lockout.
In terms of the goalies, Foster has proven himself at this level and Houser is a new guy. If the big club is pressing for starts for Houser, it is what it is.
Houser played fairly decently last Thursday, but he was pretty much the only one.

| A comment on last Thursday night vs Toledo: I have been following the Cyclones since they returned to the ECHL. I said during the game that I have not seen a better defensive effort by a team than what Toledo did to the Cyclones that night. Lets give credit where credit is due. In the next two games on Friday and Saturday, Toledo lost shut outs in each in the last two minutes of the game. That close to three shut outs in a row in the ECHL no less. They have a tremendous defensive scheme and team effort. Sampson played goal in all three games in three nights. We played three different guys. We can't rotate three goalies indefinitely. Every other team in riding basically one goalie and spelling them here and there. Goalies will tell you they prefer a lot of games and little down time. One guy isnt even dressing each game in our situation |

| Toledo now jumps ahead of Clones in standing with same number of games thanks to tonights 2-1 win at Greenville. That makes them 6-0 the last six games with Simpson winning all six while giving up just five goals. |

Scary part is Ken Reiter is strong against us for Fort Wayne and now Kent Simpson is on his game for Toledo. Three headed monster we have in goal is now possibly a problem. Don't get me wrong, all three have been good, but the defense will tend to play different for each one. We need to "loan" one out somewhere else so the playing time is only split two ways. |

Make that dropped down 2 spots. Now 5th in the league. Greenville up by 4 points and Toledo still tied. Cincy in 5th and ready to drop off the radar! |

Assuming 82 points is needed for the playoffs, the Cyclones need 14 of the remaining 38 points available to get there which is a point % of about .370 which is between the level that Trenton and Evansville have played at YTD. At the same time the current 8th place team in % points is SC which would need to win their remaining points at a .670 rate for the remainder of the year to get to 82 points or about what Reading is played at thus far. In addition all of the teams between the Cyclones and SC would need to kick their game up to jump ahead of the cyclones even if we collapse.
Time to give this team and coaches some kudos. They have played very consistently all year and hasnt received a whole lot of respect. Is this a better team than the first Cup team--no one is. Better than the 2nd? hard to tell--very similar. Remember that the 2nd Cup team finished the regular season in 2nd place in the Division and 5th overall. |

I've got to agree with dbc. I discussed it over at CycWords already but it breaks down the same. Based on history 80+ points is safe for a playoff position, 76 to 80 usually does the trick, and 75 or less is out. Barring a catastrophic collapse, the 'Clones are good.
Trenton and Evansville are cooked. Orlando is watching the door shut, ok it might already but shut but not quite locked, but if they want to claw back into the picture they're going to win at least 15 of their last 18.
Toledo, Greenville and Florida are probably good, leaving South Carolina, Elmira, Kalamazoo, Fort Wayne and Wheeling to battle it out for the final 2 places. Wheeling is really on the bubble, as is South Carolina (but they always seem to be there). And wouldn't we all like to see Fort Wayne not make it just so we can watch the media/fan **** storm that will follow. |

| With Fort Wayne not making it would be great because I despise the Komets, but being the team to knock them out of the playoffs would be bitter sweet to be able to talk smack to my Uncle in law who is a huge Komets fan. |
