| I heard that last weekend (either Friday or Saturday) the Nashville Predators had a representative in Cincinnati to meet with the Cyclones regarding an affiliation agreement. I don't know if the agreement was for the remainder of this year or for next year. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Just wondering if there was anything to this or not. |

If their is any truth to the Nashville, I hope we only talked to them first with
full Montreal's blessing.The ECHL level seems to have a ton of players that teams
want to find out about,so a secondary affiliation with Nashville would be great for
extra players.The only problem is someone has to have the final say for playing time
and multiple affiliations can lead to disaster.I think this is just another story
trying to stir up problems with the Cyclones and their fans. |

| That's why I was asking, to see if anyone else heard this. I know Toledo is affiliated with Detroit and Chicago. So it isn't totally impossible for this to happen. If there is anything to it, I too hope that it was with Montreal's blessing. With all of the rumors out there, sometimes it is hard to know what to believe and what not too. |

If anything, its a recruiting tactic....Toledo has done it for a few years now.
I know if I was a player I would want to look at a team that I have the best possibility to getting looked at from the ahl.....With having 2 affiliates will get you more notice.
Its a double edged sword with affiliations with injuries and call ups,but so far Ive been happy with it.
Hope it works out, We were affiliated with Nashville for 1 season, that year we won the brabham cup,and I think lost in the 2nd round. Had a very good team with I think 3 or 4 contracted players. |

Thanks Bryan for some positive words on the topic.Like I said,I'm for it only
if Hamilton and Montreal first give their blessings. It is nice to have extra
players, but if both teams give you a goaltender,who gets first priority? Say the
Nashville goalie is real good and Montreal's isn't,do you sit the Montreal goalie
and penalize our parent team or do we sit the Nashville goalie and hurt our own
chance? By the way Bryan, it looks like your team showed up Friday and our's didn't.
We'll see about the next time!  |

anytime you can get a chance to increase your teams abillity to bring in better caliber players you have to go for it. i do agree that we would need to do it with montreal/hamilton's approval....i wouldn't want to take the chance of losing cedrick, john, aubin (while he was here) and yes, even cory is a talented player, even if his work ethic can sometimes make him a liability. but if another affiliate can be added and we can pick up a few more players like them, the 'clones would be a force night in and night out.
as far as goalies go, the cyclones had the problem of having 2 #1 goalies at the begining of the season with cedrick and dov. the alteranting schedule worked out pretty well, although i think weber should have adopted the "post a shout-out get another start stragtegy" that being said a second affiliate sending us another #1 goalie is a good problem to have....many teams in the league only have one dependable goalie. |

Also keep in mind, if the relationship is good with both parent clubs....Normally they have no problem sending a player to another team if it means that player will get more playing time.....
Just this season Mike Brodeur who is Chicago property was sent down to the echl for a few games....He was sent to Augusta instead of Toledo....He got recalled and with our goalie situation here in Toledo he came to us this time....
Last season we had Jonathen Trombley who was a San Jose prospect....We had a really good team last season, and JT just wasnt as good a player as the rest(The boy can fight,but skate and play are other topics)....Just a simple phone call from Toledo and San Jose placed JT somewhere else..
I wouldnt worry about for first affiliation getting to upset....If anything it may help them in the long run.....Players want to play were they have the best shot getting noticed...So you may draw talent away from teams who have the beaches and warm weather and nice amenities to come and play in places like Toledo and Cinci just to get noticed.
Toledo played great all weekend long.....It was nice to finally be your goalie. Its easier for this team at home then on the road...Time will tell in february as we only have 3 home games...That will make us or break us. |
