Rumor has it from various places on the internet that five teams applied to, and were accepted into the ECHL from the CHL. However lawsuits, and threats of lawsuits halted the moves for this year. The CHL has been sold to the owners of various clubs in the CHL. So will the five teams that consist of Arizona Sundogs, Allen Americans, Denver Cutthroats, Missouri Mavericks, and Rapid City Rush be in the ECHL come 2014-15 or have the lawsuits, and new owners of the league be able to keep the CHL afloat?
An article about the sale of the CHL.

I still think they need to transfer a team to the Atlantic, and as crappy as it would sound, it would still have to be Kalamazoo... a 3, 4 and 5 team division respectively? doesnt make sense... Thanks a lot, Trenton! |

???? Mapquest a trip from Wheeling to Kalamazoo and you either have to go through Toledo or Fort Wayne. Why would you then put Kalamazoo in the Atlantic? The closest team to Wheeling is Cincinnati. We are about half the distance to Wheeling as Kalamazoo is. In addition it is a much shorter trip than the other three cities as it is all interstate while the other trips use state highways for part of the trip. |

Using cMan logic, why don't they move Evansville?? That makes as much sense as moving Kalamazoo. |

dbc: And are you suggesting that Cincinnati would have to make that move if they smoothed the divisions? Why would they move Cincinnati out of a division with their biggest rival and two teams within easy bus distance, and expect them to travel forever each night to play the likes of Reading and Elmira?
dale degray: "CMan Logic"??? kinda offensive, dont ya think? People around here piss me off, ya know that? some of you sit here and at the arena, thinking heres this 'stupid little man we have license to pick on' and making me feel like a dumbass, when you all dont really know me at all... does one person go like "Hey Rob whats up"? or do you all go "oh here comes C-Man hes a douche I wish he went away"... one of many examples... get to know a guy before you make judgements... I merely pointed out that it looks as if the ECHL would be quite contrite with a 3-team division and two 5-team divisions and its not right... its sad that you decided to use insults to prove a point, really is... |

I was pointing out that K-Zoo, which you suggested would be the most logical, was the furthest away from Wheeling than either Cincinnati, Toledo, or Fort Wayne and that if they were going to put a team in the east it would most logically be the Cyclones but I dont think that will happen as the schedule is already out and based on the current alignment. Cincinnati is the closest to Wheeling and Toledo, Ft Wayne and K-Zoo are all much closer to each other than either of them are to Cincinnati.
As to the travel and three team alignment, the trip to Reading/Elmira is much shorter than many of the trips made in the Western division or the Southern division. The west also had a three team division a few years ago.
One concern is that in all of the talk about expansion, none of the locations I have heard seem to be back east so that while I think moving a central team is unlikely, if it did occur it most logically would be the Cyclones. I imagine though that management would resist that as much as they could. It seems more likely to me that as Elmira and Reading both have struggled as a franchise in the past, those teams might fold before the Cyclones would move. The east coast is filled with AHL teams close to each other and there aren't a lot of logical spots for ECHL expansion |

dbc, you raised up a good point with the east coast being a bad spot for expansion... but I bring up another: this supposed ECHL merging with the CHL scenario I keep hearing. Most of the league's teams are in the west, so you can fill up the Western Conference right at the heartland. The one easternmost team would then take Trenton's place in the Atlantic: the Brampton Beast.
Don't laugh this off offhand, but this is a lineup that I conjured up based on what that scenario...
Atlantic Division Brampton (CHL) Elmira Reading Wheeling Whoever the ECHL can cough up
North Division Fort Wayne Toledo Evansville Kalamazoo Cincinnati
South Division Orlando Gwinnett South Carolina Greenville Florida
Central Division Allen (CHL) Missouri (CHL) Quad City (CHL) Tulsa (CHL Wichita (CHL)
Mountain Division Alaska Colorado Idaho Utah Rapid City (CHL)
Pacific Division Bakersfield Las Vegas Ontario San Francisco Stockton

A good lineup, but I doubt they would merge. The ECHL will absorb, or make those teams be expansion teams, but in no way will the ECHL allow it to appear that the lesser CHL was on the same ground they were by merging. |

I doubt a merger very much myself, the lineup is merely a reflection on the rumors ive been hearing... I left out St. Charles in this because I just dont think they can beat the Blues out for popularity in the St. Louis Metro area... I also have a scenario involving simply putting the Cyclones in a North division along with the current Alantic teams and re-name the current North Division as the Midwest Division...
The above scenario reflects either an ECHL-CHL merger, or the ECHL simply absorbing the CHL teams once the CHL inevitably folds... |
