quote: Originally posted by danc ... A guy like Dwayne Zinger might fit this description, but I don't know enough about him to make a call on this.
Before his time with Cyclones, Dwayne spent a number of years playing in the AHL including a few with our own Mighty Ducks. I think he also saw action in a few games with the Washington Capitals.
After the Cyclones won their last Kelly Cup and Dean Stork left but before Chuck Weber left, Zinger was set to become the new assistant for Chuck. One can only assume from that that the Cyclones management had at least a decent impression of him. Chucks departure is what forced the Cyclones to go a different direction.
Since then he has lead the defunct AAHL Queen City Storm for a season and most recently spent a season with Dean Stork assisting the Road Warriors.
He still has close ties to the Cincinnati area though. I saw with him a couple of weeks ago as he was up for a visit. He said he is enjoying working in Greenville but you'd be surprised how unfortunately little of his job actually involves direct coaching of hockey.
I know he has crossed paths with Matt McDonald at least a few times during his time here as a player and they have a number of friends in common from the team. But I don't know the extent of their relationship today.
As recently as last week he attended a meet-and-greet with the Greenville faithful with coach Stork. So Greenville is still parading him around in their dog-and-pony shows.
I wouldn't be surprised if his name as been mentioned recently somewhere in the bowels of USBA, but given his rather short coaching career, I wouldn't be surprised if the consensus of opinion might be "Not yet.".
I know it has no bearing on ones playing or coaching ability, but my opinion of Dwayne has always been that he's a class act. |

I know that, but was wondering if maybe he wanted to get back into coaching. It would be a big cut in pay tho |

The ONE season Chris Cichocki was the coach of the Cyclones, it was not necessarily the best team we ever had... I dont think he would want to take this job for a 2nd time |

Xavier has picked coaches quicker then the Cyclones....sometimes in less then 24 hrs...it sometimes doesnt have to take very long if the right person presents itself and the Cyclones job is a top ECHL job where a lot fo great candidates would apply to. |

Chris Cichocki?? Worst suggestion ever. His record here was 25-43-4. Really glad you're not the GM |

Any last minute guesses or speculation as to who the new head coach might be? Any whispers or rumblings from the halls of USBA? |

Preaching to the choir.... great player, bad coach... although his Arkansas teams fared pretty well... |

Wasn't really a suggestion, it was throwing a name out there.
Seems like I heard the same quote about Skalde's record in Bloomington b ut it's amazing what a coach can do if he gets some decent players. |
