He's playing tonight. He'll earn roughly $43,000 for doing so. Would have made the same eating popcorn.
Not a bad gig to have.

Not a bad gig at all for the 8-11 minutes that he'll play on the fourth line tonight. Arguably the most overpaid player in the NHL right now. |

I really think it is time for Donnie to be booted from this forum. The only reason he comes here is to start crap and try to baffle others with his bull****. Jealousy will get you no where!!! David Desharnais makes more per night than you probably make in a year. If the moderator will not give you the boot, I would love to give it to you myself. I think your needed over in fantasy land, oh thats right your already there. |

The Blue Jackets TV broadcast team noted there were a number of Cyclones fans in the stands that made the trip to Columbus to see Desharnais play. Good stuff!!!
Desharnais scored a goal in the shootout for Montreal but don't mistake that for playing well. He didn't. But it can serve as a much-needed confidence boost for him. Made it look easy on his SO goal.

Desharnais did get third star tonight, so he must've done something right. |

Won the game with the SO goal, which got him third star.
Hopefully this gets the monkey off his back and he's able to get back to playing the way he did in 2011-12 when he was a 60-point guy. |

He played well tonight. He was responsible defensively and generated a few scoring chances for himself and some teammates as well.
He also drew a penalty.
He earned a promotion from 4rth line to 3rd line in the second period. He played 16 minutes. Won a few puck battles. His face off work was the only weak part of his game.
He was smiling and joking with a few teammates all throughout the pregame warmup. Didn't seem like he had a care in the world. Glad to see that his spirit isn't broken. Montreal can be brutal toward players having a rough time of it and being a French Canadien probably makes it all the worse. As he said in a recent interview, "sometimes you have to take a step backward to take 2 steps forward". He'll take those two steps soon.
The Blue Jackets post game radio show carried part of the presser of Montreal coach Therien. He said Desharnais played well.
You can take Therien or whoever "donnie hockey" is word for it.
Ran into a few Cyclone fans up there. Only one whom I recognized. He was wearing Desharnais red uniform from the 2008 Kelly Cup finals. His wife made him take it off so she could wave it. Desharnais noticed it. It obviously gave him the mojo he needed to bread his slump. LOL.

Thanks Donny for a positive Desharnais comment. After having only one shot on goal in the game, Montreal showed some confidence in sending him out second on the shootout. This by no means puts him on the first line but maybe this can turn things around in his own head and settle him down. |

Thanks for the link. If you watch at the 1:55 mark on the replay, a simple fake on the shot may have caused the opening he needed. Don't understand why players choose to come right up on the goalie on shootouts and breakaways and don't use more fake moves. Shootouts are one on one, so no excuse for any deceptive moves not being tried. |

Desharnais is almost 50 percent for his NHL career in shootouts (9-for-19, 47.4%). Because of the success he's had in shootouts he was the logical choice by the coaching staff to be the second shooter.
Because of his lack of size and the fact he's not good on the forecheck and a grinder, he's not really suited for a fourth line role. The third line is probably where he fits best in the NHL, along with being able to play on the first power play unit.

I agree, Bags. I never understood why players went straight in. Ideally, you want to come in from an angle on your off wing.
A move that seems to work more often than not is when a player skates in on the off wing, cuts towards the front of the net and then does a 180 and backhands it past the goalie. Corey Perry with Anaheim has pulled that move off several times. |

What Desharnais coach had to say about last night:
Canadiens: David Desharnais has been much-maligned in Montreal of late. A 60-point scorer two seasons ago, he has one assist in 18 games and has missed a pair as a healthy scratch.
Desharnais still doesn't have an official goal after Friday, but he was the only player to connect in the shootout as the Canadiens rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Galchenyuk's goal with 7.8 seconds left in the first period started the comeback and Lars Eller scored on the power play in the second.
"He played well," coach Michel Therrien said of Desharnais. "He started on the fourth line and I saw his intensity. I liked the way he practiced this week and I was not afraid to make some changing during the game. He created some chances 5-on-5. I'm really glad for him for his confidence."
