Goaltender Rob Madore has been signed to a PTO with the AHL Charlotte Checkers. The Cyclones have added Tony Tabisz to the roster to fill Madore's spot on the roster.

Clones have four games in five days coming up including another three game weekend in Elmira, Reading and Wheeling. Hope they find someone else aside from an EBUG.
Speaking of goalies, Brian Foster named ECHL goalie of the week and he is 9-0-1 this year with great numbers. Never understood why he didnt get a better chance in SA but good for him.

Because Florida had a goalie in the system that was their goalie of the future(Jacob Markstrom) and a very competent No. 2 depth guy (Dov Grumet-Morris) ahead of him in San Antonio. He played well when given the chance.

Thats my point Donnie. I like Dov but he will be 32 during this season and has reached his limit never having been called up to the NHL Finished last year with a 12-22-5 record, posting a 3.24 GAA and a 0.903 save percentage and is 1-5-1 this year so far. My issue is best shown by the fact he played 12 straight games last year when they were out of the playoffs and Brian was sitting on the bench. I just dont think he got a fair shot at the SA job behind Markstrom.
By the way, Madore's call up was to replace Rick DiPietro who was released from his try out with Charlotte. Tough ending for the former #1 overall NHL draft choice.
Sounds like Madore was called up for the backup role Wednesday against Norfolk and should be back for the weekend trip to the east coast. |

Grumet-Morris is not now and has never been considered a prospect, but he's a good guy to have as the fourth goalie on the depth chart for NHL teams. If necessary, he could play a game or two in the NHL similar to Cedrick Desjardins, and that's what NHL teams are looking for with one of their two goalies in the AHL. As Florida's goalie of the future, it also helped Markstrom to have a veteran presence to work with opposed to another first or second year pro. That's what NHL teams are looking at when they place goalies in the system.
If Foster was considered a legitimate prospect, he might have received more of a look last season after Markstrom was called up. But they saw him being what Grumet-Morris is, a career minor leaguer. You don't want two of those guys in San Antonio.
There are guys on the Cyclones roster the Panthers know could play on the third line in San Antonio, but there are parts of their game they need to work on and getting more ice time and playing in all situations in Cincinnati is better for their development than just playing in five-on-five situations in the AHL. With a young goalie, it's better to play at least half the games in the ECHL than it is to play 25 games in the AHL. Goalies need to play. |
