Cincinnati Cyclones Promote "Faith Night"
When you think of hockey you probably do not think of church. But on Friday night, the two will 'mesh' at US Bank Arena. The Cincinnati Cyclones game against the Dayton Bombers will be part of Faith Night. It will feature a well-known christian music act before and during a game where "loving your neighbor" means not breaking his nose.
Local 12's Joe Webb has the lowdown on Faith Night with the Cyclones. You read it right as you whizzed by the billboard.
The Cyclones are promoting Faith Night...not fight night...or ten cent beer night.
The Canadian National game is known for doing unto others before they do unto you. And fans that like their beer. So, what exactly is Faith Night?
Sean Lynn, Cincinnati Cyclones Marketing Coordinator: "Faith Night is an event that a lot of minor league teams try to take advantage of. We look to reach out to local churches and youth groups and bring them here to see a great hockey game."
Faith Night will feature the music of Josh Bates, a Christian singer-songwriter from Independence who is signed with a national recording company. He usually performs in churches, but Friday will set up where Wildman Walker usually lounges. This may be his first gig where Bates needs to wear a cup.
Christian radio station WAKW plays Josh Bates' music and says marketing to a Christian audience shouldn't take anyone by surprise. It's just good business.
Daryl Pierce, WAKW Music Director: "Christians go to normal places. I go to the grocery store. I drive a car. I buy cars. I do all the things everyone else does. There's not much difference in lifestyles, except some choices."
And those choices may have an impact Friday night at US Bank Arena.
"Beer sales very well could be down."
That might be enough to get some people to buy tickets. The Cyclones say sales are good for Faith Night. They also expect good sales for next Friday's promotion....Melt the Ice Bikini Night.
