| I know a lot of people who do, since he isn't a scorer the have the impression "why is that guy our captain?" or "that guy is a horrible captain!" People don't realize that he leads in the most important category in all which is the +/-. |

In addition, what we fans don't regularly see is the degree to which captains cement and preserve the cohesiveness of their respective teams. I chatted with Chad briefly at a Fountain Square skating session a couple months back. He struck me as one of the nicest hockey players I have met.
Moreover, I like his skating. While he is no speed demon and although he does not check and bang on the boards in a hard/heavy fashion, he is generally in position and does not waste a lot of energy on reckless skating. He strikes me as a smart player.
I also tend to give him the benefit of the doubt, since he is my niece's favorite player. |

A LOT of people knock on Starling, and it's because they obviously miss out on the importance of the +/- as Cyclonehole pointed out. One of my fav stats.
Everyone's like, "Why won't he throw around his weight" -- just because he's 6'6" but he's not built much different than Rory. Tall, but lanky.
I'm glad a few non-haters came out of the woodwork... |

| i like chad.. and i will say he does have the duh look on his fave but if you sit next to a face odd alot of them do even during the game... i thinking its funny when there outh hangs open |

| My wife and I sit in Section 132 and I know what you mean about people hating Chad. They are constatnly yelling for him to hit people. I agree with most of you that he is a very intelligent hockey player. He seems to always be in the right place at the right time and he uses his long reach very well to keep the puck out of the goal area. He is one of my favorite players and I have noticed a little mean streak in him lately. Maybe the playoffs will bring it out more. Count me in as one of his fans. Sometimes I just watch him no matter where the puck is and he is constantly watching his teamates and the opposition and adjusts his position to defend. The NHL has an award for the best defensive defenseman and I believe that is the category he is in. Everyone has a role and he fills his role well. |
