Tonight was my first game with the nets, and I couldn't sit in my seat and watch the game. For some reason, my eyes cannot focus THRU the net, all I see is the black boxes. I will be moving my seats. I want to stay in the end, because that is where I like to watch the game from. Thanks, Gary Bettman, for taking part of the enjoyment of hockey away from me.

I agree but there is nothing we can do about it but move our seats. I tried it again tonight but had to move to the side for the 2nd & 3rd periods.. Every time I would close my eyes I would see black squares! Do not like it at all! Noticed 2 pucks still went up in the crowd tonight.....even if they went over the top of the net that isn't safe. Guess next will be a 'dome' of net like at Sports Plus.

The nets just don't bother me. If you watch the action, they tend to just blend in.

And yah, two pucks ended up in our section. What fun!

I'm sort of getting used to the net although I would like it better if they were white instead of black. I've been able to "tune them out" most of the time unless I really concentrate on them.
I personally don't think they are necessary.

I was able to move my seats down to behind the glass today. Thanks Chris!

Maybe it is because I have bad eyesight to start with, but I could not see "through" the nets. My eyes focus on the squares, not what's behind them. My wife didn't have a problem, just me.

David & I both are of the opinion that we don't think the nets are necessary. Hockey has been played since the late 1800's, I believe, and fans have always taken a chance with the puck leaving the ice. It is also very blatently stated over the PA systems that you should keep your eye on the puck because of this chance. We're probably moving down to the 3rd row or so of our section, 139, because of the obstructed view. It makes for very un-clear shots for photo taking!

My only major gripe about this is that the Account/Ticket Reps didn't call their fans/clients this summer to state that their view may be obstructed when the nets were up & that we could move our seats if we wanted too.

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

I am not a regular message poster here, but this is my opinion on the nets.

I have friend who plays goal. She is against them completely. I asked her if she, who pratices, plays games nightly and is trained to follow the puck from from ice level, can stop it every time, much less follow it all the time. Well of course she can not. So does she or any of you, think the Mother Mary, Father Fred, and their childern who come to a couple of games a year to games, can? They buy the cheaper seats which are in the prime area for pucks, farther away from the ice, and they are not trained to keep their eyes on the puck. Also you have Twister, The Dance Team doing promotions (thowing candy, Free T-shirt, Free Pizza) once the puck has been dropped after a stoppage. I know that the promotions are there for good reasons and might even bring some people back. The statment is made over the PA every night, 10 minutes before the game while most of the people are still coming in and getting consessions, they may not hear it.

Now my season tickets are down close to the glass so the nets are not in view. I went to Lexington last week and sat behind the net, about the middle on the second I did not even notice the nets. I think they should be white. I read a report on the net some where, awhile ago that clear reflected to much light, so most NHL teams went with black in thier arenas. Seems as if most minor teams followed suit. White nets would blend in with the ice and would be less noticable.

So if the nets make some non-regualars feel safer and bring them back, great. It was unforunate how we came about this, but it would be devastating to the sport if it happen again and the higher ups had done nothing. This sport needs all the fans, from die hard season ticket holders to the people who come once a year.

Good points, Scott. However, the nets are here to stay so it's pretty much a moot argument.

As I said earlier, I tend not to notice them because I'm focused on the game. It would be interesting to see if white nets would help as much as people say they do. Perhaps, this is something organizations can look into.

Im have not had a problem with the nets either. It seems that if you focus on the game the nets just seem to dissapear.

Yeah, I can't tell you how many people have told me 'wow I really need to go to a hockey game now that it's completely safe to sit in the end zones'. It was nothing more than a bullsh1t PR move by the NHL's league office that unfortunately but predictably trickled down to AAA and AA. I hope attendence in the NHL goes down considerably this year and it sends a message to Bettman that the majority doesn't want them and will not attend games and sit in seats with obstructed views.
