Cyclones draw first blood

Sam Ftorek's power-play goal midway through the third period lifted the Cyclones to a 5-4 victory over the Dayton Bombers in the opener of their ECHL North Division playoff series Sunday at Nutter Center.

Ftorek, son of former Cincinnati Stingers standout Robbie Ftorek, scored the game-winner on a blast from the blue line.

Goalie Cedrick Desjardins recorded his fourth win of the postseason.

"Today it came down to who could get the last goal and hold off the last charge," Cyclones coach Chuck Weber said.

Game 2 of the best-of-7 series is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Nutter Center.

It's nice to finally start seeing some stories in print about the team. They deserve it.

Don't feel bad about just getting some press. The same thing is happening to The Bombers in Dayton. Play great all year, win the division after 4 years in the crapper, and nothing. Once the playoffs start, they get press all over them.

Just goes to show that the press is worse than bandwagon fans. The Bombers or The Cyclones could win The Kelly Cup and the same thing would happen next season, little or no media coverage, until it's good for the media to cover it. Simple.

If either one of them win the Kelly Cup, all that will be said is that there isn't that good of attendance at the games. While I hope that it's the Clones that win the Kelly Cup, I would me happy if it were the Bombers. I'm an OHIO HOCKEY FAN that is struggling to watch the Bluejackets continue to miss the playoffs. To see both OHIO ECHL teams have a chance at making a run at the Kelly Cup, I'm hoping that one of them (hopefully the clones) wins the Kelly Cup this season.

Eh~the press just doesnt understand that the only way to get attendance up is to get the team some exposure. Throw them on the front page of the sports section when they sweep the bombers and explain that they're going into the CONFERENCE finals of the ECHL playoffs and lets see how many people show up to the games.

Screw the media...

Getting fans into the stands is not the press's job; it's the Cyclones organization. The press coverage increases during the playoffs because more people will be interested in a playoff story. It's certainly nice when the press runs stories, interviews, etc., but their allegiance is to report news (sports or otherwise),sell papers, garner listeners, etc.

In a town that tends to only focus on major league teams and universities, as much as we love them, the clones are pretty far down on the totem pole. I sure wish it were otherwise. Personally, I'd much rather go to an ECHL hockey game (or Miami for that matter), than go to a Red's or Bengal's game. And basketball-hell, they should put on equipment and allow body checking.

it's a double edged sword. the media claims they won't give the team more coverage because of the low attendance, but the lack of coverage makes the team seem less than legit.

It's just kind of strange. I remember the great attendance the first few years of the original ECHL Clones. ("Best Cheap Date in Town" was I think Cincinnati Magazine's take on it).
Now we have an ECHL that is so much higher level than it was 15 years ago, and way lower attendance. Price of a ticket, perhaps?

Venue i would say~because its much more expensive to host a game at US bank arena as opposed to the Gardens, ticket prices have to be higher. That plus 15 years ago a buck went alot further...

Does anyone have a listing of Cyclones ticket prices through the years? I can't imagine they were that much cheaper in the 1990s when you figure in inflation.

Get Clones instead of Clunkers.

When I started going to The Cincinnati Cyclones Games in 1990-1991 Season. My Tickets were $6.00 a game. I have been a Season Ticket holder for 14 Years now. I pay $10.00 a game being a season ticket holder. So to answer your question, I pay $4.00 more a Ticket per game then I did in 1990-1991 season.
