Last night (game 5 of Dayton playoff series) was really frustrating. The officials really missed some calls and the Cyclones got caught retaliating (hockey 101 the ref always sees the second hit). Then the fans started screaming at the refs, and then the refs really tilted the ice.
I’m a pretty loud fan, I love being louder than the other team, I think to yell to inspire and encourage is something to be proud of. However, there comes a point where we went from keeping the ref on his toes, to putting him into a Bombers jersey. The refs are paid to be professionally objective but they are human and when they are screamed at (like they were last night) that has to affect their calls.
Still, I do believe in accountability and calling a spade a spade, but I think that the ref’s ‘mood’ really affected our ability to win last night. It’s fun to yell at the ref (I’ve done it) and a good ref knows it, but I think it went to far and hurt our team last night.
When the ice is unfairly tilted, do something that can help… write a letter to
ECHL

I think that letters have a stronger impact than screaming.
Don’t draw stupid penalties goes for the fans too…

I think we lost because Dayton wanted the game more, and Desjardins was not at his best last night, as was anyone else it seemed. We would have lost with perfectly even refereeing.
I am curious if other people think that the fans can have a negative effect on the refs. I would think that they would be pretty thick skinned. |

| The refs did suck last night.. very badly. But like hakee said I think we lost because Dayton showed to want it more. We played really bad last night and honestly didn't deserve a win. The refereeing didn't help at all but I think we would have still lost the game in the long run, it just would have been a closer match. |

Dayton looked and looks like a bunch of crazy wild men runnin around out there, swarming the puck and, shooting and throwing the puck at the net every chance they get. I hope the boys can get it done Wednesday night!!! Lets go Cyclones!!!
I think Dayton is calling for a huge F5 Twister come Wednesday!!!! |

What started it all was the hit *i didnt see which Dayton player it was or what Cyclones player went with his head into the boards* That was a dangerous play and somehow Sammy got 4 minutes and Martens got 2 minutes.
The game should of been won by Dayton but maybe 4-2 which is still a loss. The boys just didnt want it as bad as Dayone, once again put this game behind you and go out win Wednesday. |

That play occurred right in front of me. I still can't figure why our player was nearly killed and no penalty was called on Dayton. However, truth be told Sammy should have gotten worse then 4 minutes because probably 10 seconds after the play ended Sammy purposely nailed a Dayton player hard on the back of the ankle with his stick and the Dayton player clearly was in pain. I thought for a second that he was going to colapse on the ice. I fully understand the Cyclones player's frustration because the officiating was terrible all night with Dayton getting away with near murder but you can't resort to that type of retaliation.
I must agree with everyone else however that the officials did not cost us the game. It was one of those nights when the team couldn't get it together and you can't win many games when you give up 6 goals. I think it was just a bad night and we should be back on game Wednesday.
The fans may have ticked off the officials but it was a lost cause anyway and ignoring blatantly bad calls wasn't going to help the issue. I can only hope that the crowd reaction made the officials aware of what a bum job they were doing. I see no point in fans being afraid to yell about bad calls.

So basically the Cyclones fans agree that it was an 'intent to injure' slash? The officiating was much worse in game 4.

| Yes - I do agree that there was an intent to injure and I have already said there was no excuse for it. If you are going to pick up on that part of my comment you should also pick up on the first part of my comment. "I still can't figure why our player was nearly killed and no penalty was called on Dayton." While it is not a valid excuse it was a response to a ridiculously bad no-call after our player was ambushed. |
