CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced this afternoon that the 2007-08 schedule will have several changes from the original slate of contests released earlier this summer.
Six games have been re-arranged to facilitate other events occurring at U.S. Bank Arena this season. Included in the changes will be the moving of opening night and two other changes prior to the first of January. The home opener will now shift one week later, to Friday, October 26 when the Trenton Devils visit the arena for the weekend. Faceoff each night will be at 7:30pm.
The game originally scheduled for Friday, October 19 has been moved to Wednesday, December 5 at 7:30pm. This was necessitated by the UFC event coming to U.S. Bank Arena on October 20.
Other games moving include the November 9 game versus Augusta, will move back a day to Thursday, November 8. The December 13 games versus Johnstown, is now a 5pm start on Sunday, December 16. In the new year (2008), the January 31st game versus Charlotte shifts back a day (January 30) and the March 18 game against Johnstown, is now a St. Patrick’s Day game (Monday, March 17).
The game slated for Thursday, January 10, 2008 has moved back to a Wednesday, November 14, 2007 tilt at 7:30pm against Trenton.
“Minor changes to a schedule are inevitable,” Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. “One of the few downfalls to an early release of the schedule is having changes like these occur. We are still more than a month away from the start of our season, so our fans have time to prepare for these adjustments.”
Tickets for the 2007-08 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. Ticket packages start as low as $66, call the Cyclones at 513-421-PUCK (7825) for more details. The home season starts on Friday, October 26 when the Trenton Devils come to U.S. Bank Arena.

Why release a schedule early if the dates scheduled for home games mean nothing.I bet
I'm not the only person that makes plans for vacations more than a month in advance.
I know this seems like "sour grapes" on my part,but if I only showed up at Openining
Night or big promotion nights,you could say tough luck.I bought season tickets to
show some dedication to the team,all I ask is now you hold this home game schedule in
stone-not pencil. |

No disrespect to anyone, but the timing of each season's schedule release is not really the issue. The true issue is that the schedule changes are not so much dicated by timing as they are by the arena's ability to contract for events that will generate far more revenue than Cyclones tickets and concession sales projections. Even after the season begins, schedule changes can occur, pending Nederlander's abilily to obtain profitable events and the league's willingness to accomodate those changes. In fact, the more flexible the league is in accomodating said changes, the more incentive Nederlander has to continue sponsorship of an enterprise that is losing more than a few dollars.
Of course, the schedule changes neither help our (the fans) respective agendas nor improve the image of minor league hockey. On the other hand, few of us would be happy were the schedules to be released a week or even a month prior to the season opener. We would argue that we do not have ample time to structure our personal schedules around the season and that we therefore cannot commit to season tickets or to attending most of the games. I am by no means pleased about the changes - they rescheduled a game to which I planned to take my niece on her birthday. However, her birthday is by no means shattered.
I am more concerned with the team's on-ice performance and the quality of customer service I receive from the staff. And, as much as a I love hockey, I certainly do not expect the front office to admit that a financially shaky proposition, such as minor league hockey, is not a priority over and above events that will generate five to ten times more revenue. "Early" schedule release dates are an acceptable patsy.
By now, this should be no surprise to anyone. Were I the owner of such an enterprise, I would do exactly the same thing. It is what it is.

Absolutely correct.
The complaint from the STH point of view, and one that I can appreciate, is that the organization knows that there exists a good chance that it will make changes to the schedule every year. And, as you said, the league determines the schedule release dates. My point, however, is that these changes are not due to preexisting conflicts at the time of the schedule release. They occur later, due to the contracting of better revenue generating events. Because the team loses money, I completely understand Nederlander's financial motivations.
In short, we the fans know these issues are going to arise each and every year. The overriding variable that dictates schedule changes is attendance; and, frankly, recent Cyclones attendance moves hockey to the bottom of the food chain. This is nothing more than a financial move. While it does not make fans happy, it is not a conspiracy or slight against those fans. It is a purely financial decision, and the trend will remain constant until more fans start attending games.
In the grand scheme of things, these schedule changes are nothing more than mere inconveniences. ON the other hand, the organization might want to considering throw a bone or two to STHs when schedule changes do occur. STH support should not be taken for granted. Offer bags a free pizza or autograph stick/puck/etc. |

My biggest complaint is real simple-OPENING NIGHT was not even safe!!
I know my complaint started because I made plans for the second home
game which will now be Opening night. No I have no plans to cancel my
season tickets and yes I can't wait for the season to start. I'm just
mad because I never dreamed that Opening night would even be considered
as a moveable date. Considering the number of weekday games last year,
10 more weekend dates probably would have raised attendance by 500
per game!Good luck USBA for the fight night and I hope you have a big
crowd SATURDAY. Maybe next year our attendance will make you want to
GIVE US the good nights,not TAKE THEM AWAY! |

| I concur with you bags ... I have been saying the same thing. The schedule horrors obviously aren't their fault, but I think at least an announcement that the OPENING NIGHT was going to be changed might have been helpful. Even if they hadn't had the set date when it was rescheduled, at least let the fans know. This is what separates the hardcore fan base (aka us) and the casual fans, and believe it or not I'm sure there are some folks who had planned on just going to the opening night as of right now. On top of that, apparently they did have the rechanged date available because Dayton even had it on their site. |

one thing you have to keep in mind is that the teams website isn't really a good source of information regarding the team. often times people who post here read press releases from the cyclones on the echl website and then post them here before they show up on cycloneshockey.com.
i understand that the team may not have wanted to anounce the changes until they knew what the changes would be, but i think that an anoucement regarding the change to the home opener should have been made as soon as they knew that it was going to have to be moved, and then another anouncement when they knew what the new date would be. i don't think anyone faults USBA for making changes so they can run the building in a profitable manner, because that is they only way that the team can survive, but the lack of information and communication to the STH is an issue.
as a side note...what are the odds that the tickets that they send us are actually correct?

All of the $403, $103 and $53 tickets are sold out... only tickets available are at the top of the $303 and $203 sections.
Even if you would have had already sold out opening night they still would have moved it, with the cheepest ticket in the lower bowl going for $203 dollars they will easily make more than 10 TIMES the ammount of money they would have made IF your opening night sold out... Nutter would have done the same thing to us. |
