| Schmidt has done nothing or me either. One new player I have continuously been impressed with has been Andrew Martin. He isn't going to net a load of goals but every time he's on the ice he seems to be giving it his all, as well as making smart decisions. He grew on me fast. |

I agree. He's kind of like a Scotty Reynolds... doesn't always show up on the score sheet but is a huge presence on the ice. |

| I guess Im the only that likes Bryan Schmidt 2 goals 5 assists a +1. Sure at times hes been a little shakey on D but hes a good set up guy. |

he gets points but for every point he makes 40 doofus plays. proof that stats aren't always a true testament of a player's (in)ability |

the point is...he's a defensman. he should be taking care of his own end first. last year we had rory and he put up a lot of points, but always made sure he got back to cover his own end. schmidt seems to hang out deep in the offensive zone too long, pinches in at the wrong times and spends a lot of time chasing to get back into plays after a guy goes skating right past him. if a d-man is making plays from a back check position thats a big problem.....i don't care how many point he puts up. |

We are lucky to have Schmidt. He's actually way to good to be playing here. He's taking some chances on offense that he probably shouldn't, but he wants to put up some numbers and get back to where he probably belongs - the AHL.
Martin's idiotic penalty which gave them the 5 on 3 was the killer. I'd much rather see Gallagher suited up than this clown. Howells was pathetic all night. On offense, I think he mistakenly believes he is Wayne Gretzky. He holds the puck for an eternity trying to make the perfect play. I think he's got some offensive talent. He's a rookie, and with Weber/Stork's coaching I'm sure he'll improve.
It would be nice if Starling remembered how to get the puck out of the zone.
All that being said, we're fairly sound defensively. And given our ability to control the puck and flow of the game, our defense isn't going to be put to the test as much as it was last year. We may even survive clownrad Martin's continual ineptitude.
Andrew Martin has been an offensive disappointment so far. But, he put up nice numbers last year with Toledo. I'm sure he'll regain his form before too long. |

I agree. There are different positions for a reason. If a Dman is too slow to catch up when the other team gets a lead then they need to stay back and let others put up the points. Like you said, Rory was fast enough to be able to offensive and defensive at the same time. Also something Matt MacDonald is getting better at. |

| chad hes changed since last year...hes becoming a thug and he is taking more stupid penilties. hopefully he will fix things and quit the stupid penilties |

It may be a numbers game in Milwaukee. I don't know. I base my opinion on his size, skating ability and his obvious offensive talent at this level. We don't have any other defenseman with his ability to point man the power play. Perhaps Miller or Howells (later in the season) may become as able. He also spent the majority of last year with good team Manchester (AHL) and played in most of their playoff games.

I second that. I hope they don't make him Captain. Not that I don't like him. I think he was an outstanding contributor last year. I just don't think his whining to the refs on obvious calls makes him the one you want talking to the ref. Ftorek knew how to work a ref. Based on refs' reactions to Chad, I don't think he does. In fact, I think he probably hurts us when he pleads our case. |

totally agree. Very impressed with Andrew and like everyone else, not a big fan of Schmidt.

i would have to agree with you that he has the size, although his skating will remain a topic of dispute. my biggest problem is that he is wasting with the WAY he plays the game and that's why i don't like him. sure he puts up points on the PP, but he has also been responsible for giving up odd man opportunities because he lets guys blow right by him. if he skates that well, he should be able to stay in the play.
i said this in an earlier post...he IS a defenseman. when a d-man spends most of his shift back-checking, that is a problem. he should be in front of the play. part of this has to do with chuck telling the d-men to hold the blueline to try to create turnovers and i think that has been the cause of a lot of the dumb penalties that the d-men are taking this year. it just seems to me that schmidt spnds more time following the puck, getting back into the play than he does actually playing his position and being IN the play. chuck said, at the first coach's show, that in order for schmidt to stick at the ahl level he was going to have to do a better job of staying at home and playing his position. why doesn't he start that here. sure we all loved rory last season when he you skate the puck up and create offense. the key difference is that if rory got beat at the blueline he would skate his ass off to get back in front of the play and he usually did. i haven't seen that kind of effort from schmidt yet, and until i do, i'm going to continue you to dog him. |
